I am a licensed professional counselor with over forty years of experience. My approach is humanistic, in that I believe in the inherent goodness and strength of each individual, and will provide you with compassion, empowerment, support, and an environment that is safe and nonjudgmental. My approach is also cognitive-behavioral, in that when appropriate, I will help you challenge and overcome self-defeating thoughts (i.e. inner critic) and behaviors (i.e. non-assertiveness or avoidance). In their place, you will be able to learn healthier coping strategies and more positive and realistic thinking.
An additional approach that I use is psychodynamic in that at times, it will be important to go back to one’s past to heal old wounds interfering with one’s present life. The key will be to choose with you the approach and interventions, that will best meet your needs and goals and that are research supported.
Life can be daunting in so many ways from relationship issues to developmental challenges to dealing with chronic mental and physical illnesses to facing multiple stressors to lacking faith in oneself or others.
