Welcome! My approach to therapy is rooted in the concept of validation and change. I believe in the role of compassionate understanding of our histories and ourselves to make sense of why we do what we do. When this understanding is coupled with a commitment to growing and healing (a commitment I will help you sustain when the going gets tough!), we are able to make desired changes, and in turn, transform from just getting by to thriving. I work with adults in areas of trauma/PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, personality disorders, suicidal ideations, and other concerns.

I have worked with individuals with Developmental Delays, Serious Mental Illness, Suicidal /Homicial Ideation, Self Harm, and many more populations.
Currently, my primary focus is working with children and adolescents; helping them to reprocess trauma and improve their interpersonal relationships as well as help them develop a healthier relationship with themselves. Helping children and teens learn who they are and learning to love themselves is a bright spot in my profession. My approach is trauma-informed and strength-based. In a person-centered therapeutic setting, I strive to help individuals increase their resilience by processing their trauma and re-writing the narrative of their negative belief system; replacing it with a sense of empowerment and resourcefulness.

I have experience supporting individuals facing the hidden pandemics of our time: anxiety, trauma (intergenerational, cultural, racial, childhood, and other forms), depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation , and family system dynamics.
Stories are one of the primary reasons why I chose to enter this profession and, while I have only been a professional for part of my life, I have been listening to peoples stories for a long time. I believe stories is where our humanity rests and stories display the full range of our complexity and connection as humans.

Does it seem like living the life you desire is out of reach but somehow easy for others? Does it feel like you take a step forward just to run into a wall of anxiety, depression and/or anger blocking your path? Know now you come by these feelings honestly. Past losses/traumas can easily set up this reoccurring pattern. I truly understand how this happens and yet wholeheartedly believe that you can live a connected & vibrant life. I also know that working through the past in a safe space is crucial to breaking free. You may not remember the last time you truly felt safe, so my goal is to create an environment where healing can begin

I enjoy working with teens and adults from all backgrounds! I usually connect well with people who had developmental or complex trauma in childhood, as well as young adults struggling with the transition to "adulting." I have experience helping with low self-esteem, general anxiety, social anxiety, chronic illness, codependency, trauma, and depression. I believe we all go through challenges in life and need to work on our mental health to reach our full potential. You can do it, even when it's scary! You are the expert on your own life and have more strengths than you realize! I would be honored to meet with you.

Are you experiencing patterns of behavior that you find difficult to change? Do you feel stuck and frustrated by repeated failures to improve certain aspects of yourself? Are you struggling with negative self-talk and conflicting internal dialogue? If so, therapy may be a helpful option for you. As a human being, we all have an innate ability to heal and often our minds and bodies automatically stretch towards this healing. The challenge is that often times we are engaged in old healing/adaptive patterns that no longer serve us and therapy can help with the creation and revising of these patterns for a healthier way of life.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
