Sleep is magical, and I want to bring that magic back for my clients who have a tense relationship with sleep .
At the Center for Sleep and Psychological Wellness, I love helping my clients feel more comfortable and confident in their lives. One of my favorite ways to do this is by supporting sleep ! Whether your sleep has never been what you want or has changed more recently, I can teach you evidence-based skills to improve and manage sleep long-term (no meds needed!). I also provide general psychotherapy for concerns like anxiety, depression, and trauma. I practice from an eclectic orientation and enjoy using interventions from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness.

Anxiety on its own can be extremely challenging. To make matters more difficult, it often also comes with sleep difficulties or depression, which can make daily life an exhausting and frustrating experience. The good news is that with the correct approach, it is usually possible to make significant progress in a short period of time. I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, and related difficulties (including panic attacks, OCD, generalized anxiety, phobias, PTSD, and others). I have a particular specialty in the treatment of insomnia and sleep related disorders.

I have trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and CBT-I for insomnia , Mindfulness, and Self-Compassion.
I currently have a couple of openings for new clients for September 2023 and fall semester. My aim is to help you address problematic ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving by way of examining the ways in which you perceive the world around you. The goal is to assist you in reaching a position of appreciation for your genuine self (for you are the perfect you!) and an acceptance of the events that occur in your life. I would be honored to take part in your journey of discovering the narratives which potentially distort reality and lead to discomfort, diminished self-worth, or other barriers to attaining contentment.

You have terrible sleep and feel exhausted all the time. Between work and family life, you are constantly busy but as soon as you lay down at night your mind starts racing and it keeps you from the sleep you so desperately need. These terrible nights of sleep make it hard for you to function in life. It’s hard to focus at work and you find yourself forgetting simple things. Even when you are spending time with your family, you are stressed out and irritable. You feel like you are failing in the areas of your life that are the most important to you.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
