Starting therapy can feel intimidating, but taking steps toward personal growth and healing is incredibly empowering. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive space where you can explore your emotions, gain self-awareness, and work toward a deeper sense of authenticity and self-love.

The process of seeking help can be rough and it’s normal to have fears about trusting someone new to discuss difficult topics. However, it is also moments like this that provide us the opportunity for lasting transformation. Challenging times in our lives offer the potential to create lifelong change through abandoning unhelpful patterns of living, which were formed in our personal histories. Life is full of challenging transitions, and it can be experienced as emotionally overwhelming. In these moments, we can reconnect with our internal compass in our path to healing.

I am an individual who believes in the inner strength of each individual, sometimes you just need help in finding it. My practice will focus on trauma-informed care, seeking a solution to the hurts and wounds that bring each client to my threshold or doorway. We will work collaboratively using such techniques as motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused interventions and S.M.A.R.T. goals (which are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-based). I will also assist and guide you in the attainment of inner peace and beginning to understand the mind-body connection.

You overthink everything. You replay conversations, second-guess yourself, and avoid situations that should be simple. Anxiety is affecting your sleep, focus, and confidence. Many of my clients are teens and adults who feel stuck in this cycle and want real change. I help them understand how their mind works and guide them through structured steps that reduce anxiety and build confidence. This work is active and focused on helping you respond differently so you can move forward with clarity and control.

You are on the right track: seeking out assistants, allies. Kind of depressed? Anxious? Troubles in your relationship? Feeling alienated or a loss of direction? There are lots of ways to describe it, and initially that's all I'll ask you to do. You'll have the freedom of a confidential discussion and a trained professional to help illuminate issues, set goals, and pursue your concerns. You may want insight into your situation. You may want tools. You certainly want results, and to develop some capacities that you haven't seen for a while. That works for me. And I offer clinical supervision to other therapists as well.

Among the greatest gifts you can give yourself are awareness and acceptance. One of the biggest responsibilities our mind has is to make predictions based on our understanding of the world around us. These predictions can often lead us to repeat the same mistakes, or fail to take hold of things we desperately want. Are you someone who feels the need to make a change, but feels lost or overwhelmed with how? Do you feel out of place in your family, or with your friends? Are you working too hard at school, in your relationship, at work or with your children and feel like you don't have much to show for your efforts?

Hi there, I'm John! Need to make a change in your life? Whether it's dealing with an acute and/or chronic mental health, or simply addressing a life issue, helping clients identify and implement positive change is what I do. I don't view therapy as "fixing our brokenness", but rather a process of moving from where we are to where we want to be. Call "good to great". I focus on listening fully, and when appropriate, sharing my ideas and intuitions. I don't try and impress you with a bunch of psychological jargon; I use everyday language. While I'm always professional, I'm not afraid to laugh or cry with you.

If you’re constantly in your head—overthinking, second-guessing, replaying conversations long after they’re over—you’re not alone. I work with creatives, sensitive people, and high-functioning adults who struggle with self-doubt, low motivation, and a harsh inner critic. You might feel stuck, frustrated, or like you can’t get out of your own way. I help people quiet the mental noise, shift the patterns that keep them stuck, and build a more supportive relationship with themselves. You don’t need to have it all figured out before reaching out. If this resonates, send me a message and we’ll set up a consultation.

The prospect of healing trauma or moving through big life transitions can seem daunting. When we’ve experienced trauma, it can rob us of our sense of self, creativity, contentment and ability to take healthy risks. At Embrace the Multiplicity Counseling, I provide you a safe, non-judgmental space where you’ll learn skills to build resiliency and help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that grief and trauma have obscured. It is an honor to be a part of your path to self-discovery and wholeness.

I take an eclectic approach to therapy—no two people are the same, so no two therapeutic approaches should be either. Clients can expect a safe and supportive space to freely express themselves, build self-awareness, and pursue authentic growth without judgment. My path to this work began with raising two sons on the autism spectrum while my wife served in the military. Supporting their unique needs, as well as families and individuals facing PTSD, inspired me to dedicate myself to helping others heal.

Helping people reach their personal goals is one of the most rewarding parts of my work as a therapist. I believe that we carry the means of healing and growth within us. Therefore, you as the client will choose the direction of therapy. Many times, we just need some help listening to ourselves, clarifying our goals, and choosing the means to reach them. I see myself as a guide and resource on your journey; you decide where we are going and I do everything I can to help you get there. The sessions and course of treatment will be as structured or free-flowing as you decide.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
