My clients come to therapy motivated by the desire for change and because of one or more of the following issues: anger, anxiety, depression, family of origin issues, grief and loss, relationship issues and trauma.
For the past 33 years, I have worked with adults, individuals and couples, practicing psychotherapy within a Jungian framework. Three guiding Jungian principles are a profound respect for each individual's process, awareness is realized through reconciliation of the opposites, and an awareness of how powerfully the unconscious influences the psyche.

Sometimes therapy addresses current challenges/difficulties, sometimes it's about family of origin issues using inner child work, and/or trauma reduction work.
I use a variety of approaches in the therapeutic process including: Pia Mellody's model of Co-dependency/Developmental Immaturity and relational trauma recovery, EMDR, insight oriented experiential process work, somatic, body-oriented therapies using contemplative approaches for body/emotions/awareness integration. I work with individual adults and couples.

I am well versed in family of origin work, cognitive behavioral techniques, mindfulness training and self psychology.
Seeking help to deal with issues in your life takes lots of courage. I respect that greatly. Often the first step of committing to counseling is the biggest hurdle. Whether it's relationship problems, coping with loss or transitions, anxiety, depression, self esteem concerns, there are times when professional assistance can really help. Sometimes counseling goals are accomplished quickly and other times there is a need for longer term and deeper work. I have the training and expertise to do both.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a certified Gestalt Therapist with 30 years of experience.
For those struggling with anxiety, depression, grief or relationship issues, it is often difficult to find balance and peace. We may at times be unable to find that balance on our own and choose to reach out for support. I see that reaching out as both courageous and healthy. I believe successful therapy is based on a strong relationship between a therapist and a client. You will find that I provide support, safety and a nurturing environment as we explore issues and work together to facilitate growth and self-awareness.

Most recently, I have managed a Family Program aiding patients and their families with tools of recovery.
Therapeutic rapport is essential in healing. It is important to allow people to grow in their own time, while holding space for their process. My goal is to promote a safe and comfortable environment to work through past wounds and help in building resilience. I work from an empathetic, but empowering approach. I have worked in many diverse therapeutic populations; with over 15 years of experience. I am passionate about meeting people where they are and helping them grow. I can work with many different presenting issues; including mood dysregulation, substance abuse, relationship struggles, distorted body image, trauma, etc.

During my experience as a Professional Counselor I have found that many people find comfort in my calming nature and my ability to explain and practice therapeutic techniques to reduce emotional discomfort such as anxiety, depression, frustration with focus, family or communication issues.
I conduct all of my counseling sessions exclusively by convenient video appointments. I currently offer a free 10-15 minute consultation by telephone or video for those with questions about whether or not video counseling would be a good fit for them. In short, video counseling is the same content wise as face to face counseling, just more convenient!

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
