As we know, life does not always work the way we want it to work. Our well-meaning attempts to make life work, too often become patterns that keep us from fulfilling the life we were made to live. When we can’t change these patterns, we get stuck. When life isn’t working, we need help. And NO, It’s never too late to change. Therapy is a collaborative, interactive process between patient and therapist. During this process, the therapist can treat specific issues (e.g. anxiety, depression, adjustments, sexual integrity, trauma, etc.) or everyday concerns (e.g. relationships and family problems, career issues, etc.).

Specialty areas for me include trauma, eating disorders, women's issues, mood disorders, addiction, and family dynamics.
I am a licensed professional counselor and certified eating disorders specialist. I enjoy working with adults 18+ and elder adults. Most clients come to me with a combination of concerns from history of trauma, to eating disorders, to depression and anxiety. To me the most important aspect of psychotherapy is the relationship between therapist and client and I consider it a privilege to work alongside others towards creating a more fulfilling and authentic life. I strive to provide an environment where clients feel safe to disclose private thoughts, feelings, and dreams and feel comfortable taking emotional risks.

Whether you’re an individual, a couple or a family looking for help - my therapy sessions are designed to strengthen your confidence, and assist you in the healing process.
I implement an effective psychotherapy method to instill self-understanding among patients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations and I do this by building a therapeutic relationship. It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix: therapy is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and caretaker alike. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.

Through the use of Adlerian/ Family Systems therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and other forms of talk therapy, success can be attainable.
Things happen to us everyday which impact and change who we are and how we live in this world. Twenty plus years of working in this field with individual's of diverse ages, cultures and back grounds have proven this to be true. I believe my role as a therapist is to support others in identifying "their" purpose. The passion for guiding others in identifying positive choices and making healthy changes is "my" purpose.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a certified Gestalt Therapist with 30 years of experience.
For those struggling with anxiety, depression, grief or relationship issues, it is often difficult to find balance and peace. We may at times be unable to find that balance on our own and choose to reach out for support. I see that reaching out as both courageous and healthy. I believe successful therapy is based on a strong relationship between a therapist and a client. You will find that I provide support, safety and a nurturing environment as we explore issues and work together to facilitate growth and self-awareness.

My heritage in psychotherapy is derived from four main areas of training and experience: 1) formal professional training in cognitive-behavioral therapy,2) research/conceptual training in stress/coping 3) practicum work in community, family , and marital systems intervention, 4)exposure/course work in existential psychology. I have found the ever-broadening relevance of the stress concept to the entire health field has made old mind-body ideas obsolete.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
