From my perspective, understanding
family
dynamics is beneficial for both individuals and families as a whole. Unfortunately, many of these dynamics are invisible. I encourage people to comprehend the invisible influences that their families have on them and those that they have on their families. Once the invisible becomes visible, individuals and/ or families can develop effective coping skills to lead a more fulfilling life. The ultimate goal is to create healthy relationships.

As a Marriage and
Family Therapist
, I approach therapy from a systemic lens knowing that we are all part of larger systems, whether that be families, couples, neighborhoods, or co-workers.
Coming to a therapist can be intimidating and it takes a lot of courage. It is my hope to provide you with a comfortable, safe, and accepting environment. Whether it’s just you, your
family
, or you and your partner, I want everyone to feel supported as we work on your treatment goals. As a systemic therapist, I help families and couples learn to communicate more effectively, resolve conflict, and deepen connection in their relationships. I also work with individuals to be more aware of thoughts, opinions, and beliefs that have developed over years of life experience, and how those impact their current view of the world around them.

My specialty is trauma healing (Advanced EMDR, TRE, Trauma-CBT) and includes healing those breaks in developmental attachments with our
family
that lead to intense emotional states, as well as incidents of trauma that eventually lead us to avoid special parts of our life.
Are you looking for the power to heal yourself and explore new ways of being? Often, we need some guidance to learn how to do that with a little help. If you are stalled in your hopes or frozen in fear, if your life feels drained of its essence, and if your state-of-being continues to spiral downward, your very being can become filled with anxiety, depression, leading to hopelessness and despair. My therapeutic foundation empowers you to recognize your blocks, provides you a safe place to regain your lost power, and offers a new perspective to change the course of your life.

My areas of expertise are: anxiety, depression, "adulting", substance abuse/addiction, self-harm, "pandemic fatigue", disordered eating, trauma resolution, life transitions, relationships, communications, values, life skills, grief and loss, and
family
systems.
It's hard to be happy when your life is out of balance: You feel down or sad. The activities you used to enjoy are no longer fun. You have no energy. Everything stresses you out. You feel like crying. You want to crawl into a hole and pull the hole in with you. Maybe you're hurt and angry over a relationship. Maybe you're a teenager whose parents don't understand you or you're the parent of a kid who's making dangerous choices. Maybe you're a young adult who has discovered that "adulting" is a lot harder than you thought.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
