I am a licensed professional counselor and certified eating disorders specialist. I enjoy working with adults 18+ and elder adults. Most clients come to me with a combination of concerns from history of trauma, to eating disorders , to depression and anxiety. To me the most important aspect of psychotherapy is the relationship between therapist and client and I consider it a privilege to work alongside others towards creating a more fulfilling and authentic life. I strive to provide an environment where clients feel safe to disclose private thoughts, feelings, and dreams and feel comfortable taking emotional risks.

Perhaps especially in the context of trauma, attachment, and eating disorders , I believe the therapeutic relationship can be a site of exploration, experimentation, analysis, play, and healing.
My clinical interests include psychodynamic and attachment theory, somatic based trauma therapy, and anti-carceral eating disorder therapy. I hold a graduate degree in Clinical Social Work Practice from Columbia University, and a Graduate Certificate in Gender & Women’s Studies from the University of Arizona. I identify as a queer feminist, and my hope is to work within an anti-oppressive psychotherapy framework. For me, this means I aim to hold in mind the dynamics of power, race, oppression, and privilege in the therapy room, in communities, and in larger sociocultural and political systems.

"What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Ralph Waldo Emerson. Using a holistic approach in therapy we will explore the mind, body and spirit connection. We will learn balance and build resilience through the power of self-discovery, thus improving your quality of life. Negative thought patterns and beliefs will be identified and challenged through DBT, mindfulness, and EMDR. When needed we may create healthy eating habits and a healthy relationship with exercise. Cultivating your spirituality to relieve fear and nurture an attitude of gratitude and abundance is encouraged.

I work with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders , body image issues, complex trauma, PTSD, grief and relationship issues.
In a world where we are constantly experiencing trauma, both directly and indirectly, it can be difficult to identify how deeply different things in life affect us. I believe that the experience of feeling understood can be the catalyst for change and something that allows for healing to begin. I aim to provide a space of healing, openness and exploration for those things that you might otherwise suppress or carry with heaviness or judgment. Together, we can heal that unresolved stuff from the past and create skills to support you through future circumstances.

I'm passionate about working with adults, teens, couples, and families who seek relief from anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship/family issues, low self-esteem, eating disorders , and life transitions.
Hi there, and welcome. Let’s talk about the struggles that brought you here. Let’s also talk about the strength. Whether you’re giving therapy a first try, or another chance, I know it’s not easy. But we’re both here because of our shared belief that things can improve with the right support. Now let’s nurture your belief - in therapy and, most importantly, in yourself. You can change harmful behaviors that take more than they give. You can validate your past trauma and get out from under it. You can meet your emotional needs that were not met while growing up. You can learn to more fully love yourself and, in turn, receive love.

I have experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which is considered one of the best treatments for eating disorders , anxiety, substance abuse, depression and trauma.
Please note that I am not accepting new clients at this time. If you are struggling with an eating disorder, depression, anxiety, substance abuse or trauma, please know that there is hope and healing for you. I enjoy walking along side people overcoming these disorders and being able to find out what true recovery means. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is an important one and that a person must have a good relationship with their therapist while the therapist utilizes therapeutic treatments that work.

Eating Disorders Therapists

What happens in therapy for eating disorders?

In therapy for eating disorders, patients typically describe their eating and exercise behaviors, their patterns of eating in relation to stress, their beliefs about their body, the ways their eating behavior affects their relationships, and their desire (or lack of it) to change. Such information helps the therapist understand the origins of the disorder and the role it plays in the patient’s life, important for guiding treatment. Attitudes and feelings about food and eating, body weight, and physical appearance are common topics of discussion throughout treatment.

What therapy types help with eating disorders?

Once any acute medical or psychiatric emergency is resolved, psychoactive medication is often prescribed, requiring the supervision of a psychiatrist. In addition, patients receive some form of nutritional counseling along with one or more forms of psychotherapy. For adolescents, family-based treatment is empirically validated and considered the first line of treatment; parents and their children meet weekly with a clinician as the adults are coached on how to nourish and psychologically support the young patient. Adults typically receive some form of individual psychotherapy, intended to resolve the cognitive and behavioral disturbances that underlie the disorder and to relieve the mood disturbances that accompany it. In addition, patients may also be helped by group therapy.

What is the goal of therapy for eating disorders?

The most immediate goal of treatment for eating disorders is to save the life of people who are on a path of starving themselves to death or engaging in eating patterns that are doing irreparable physical harm to their body. Once the acute medical danger is past, therapy is required to understand the nature of the disordered eating and/or exercise patterns, establish healthy eating behavior, and to tackle the many erroneous beliefs and distorted self-perceptions that underlie eating disorders and continue to pose a threat to health and life. Therapy also addresses the impaired mood that not only accompanies eating disorders but intensifies the danger to health and life.

What are the limitations of therapy for eating disorders?

Therapy can be very helpful for eating disorders—but that can happen only after people recognize they have a condition that must be treated. Especially with anorexia, the distortions in self-image that accompany the disorder can keep people from acknowledging they have a problem. Individuals may in fact see their eating disorder as a badge of self-control. Those with binge-eating disorder may feel too ashamed to seek help. Therapy cannot help those who do not avail themselves of it.

How long does therapy last for eating disorders?

Because of their complexity, recovery from eating disorders is usually a long-term process—measured in months and years— often marked by setbacks and relapse. Some form of help, such as individual or group therapy, may be advisable for much of that time. It is a general rule of thumb that the longer the illness has endured and the dysregulated eating behavior has taken root, the longer treatment is likely to be needed.
