I work with individuals, couples and families dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues and parenting, as well as adolescence/ phase of life issues, blended families and other change of life/adjustment issues.
In over 30 years of practice, I've realized that there is no treatment model that fits every situation, so I take an eclectic approach, tailoring treatment to fit each client. Some models I use are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Insight-Oriented Therapy, and Interpersonal Therapy.

My orientation is family systems, which means even when there is only one person in my office, I view that person in the context of emotional systems in which he or she is embedded–family, work, friendships–and try to help the person recognize forces that are acting upon them. What are the "rules" of those systems? What expectations did someone grow up with, for example, around marriage and family? What lessons were learned about sexuality and religion, about work and play, fitting in vs. going one’s own way, and all the other challenges and choices that life presents?

My ideal client may be navigating identity, trauma, or mental health challenges related to oppression or neurodivergence. They seek empowerment, healing, and connection. However, I have been formally trained in traditional CBT, DBT, trauma-focused interventions (CPT & PE), CBASP for chronic depression, and Emotionally-Focused Couples Therapy.
If you've ever felt as though you're working very, very hard, but aren't particularly content in your life, you're not alone. Many of us spend a lot of time ensuring everyone else is taken care of and happy, striving for material success or accolades, or otherwise pursuing perfection. These are brilliant strategies that you probably developed for a reason. But maybe now they're not as helpful or fulfilling as you'd hoped. Through therapy, you can move past patterns that are keeping you stuck to realize your true potential for joy and connection.

I work with individuals navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, and the lingering impacts of difficult or traumatic experiences.
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially when you are not sure how to put into words what is wrong. Sometimes you may feel something just isn't working and feel exhausted trying to hold it together.
With me, therapy is collaborative, supportive, and paced to meet you where you are. You don't have to have everything figured out when you first walk in, and there is no pressure to share more than you are ready to share. Therapy with me is both safe and practical, offering understanding while also helping you move forward in ways that matter to you.

Throughout our clinical experience at Better Lives Building Tribes (BLBT), we have learned that people are learning the most about themselves through their interactions with other people. But interactions with other people are complicated and people often need help navigating conflict, conflict resolution, and setting boundaries amidst already struggling self-esteem and self-worth. How we feel about ourselves has everything to do with our ability to defend ourselves, verbalize our own needs, and come up with creative solutions to our interpersonal hurdles. If you find yourself having difficulties with others, we are here to help.

I'm Audrey Schackart, a compassionate and experienced therapist, dedicated to assisting individuals, couples, and families navigate life's challenges and experience personal growth.
Welcome to Hygge Mental Health Services! "Hygge" (pronounced hyoo-guh) is a Danish word describing the feeling one experiences while cozying up by the fireplace with a good friend, often with a comforting hot beverage. Its origin is traced back to an Old Norse word meaning "protected from the outside world." Author Signe Johansen writes, “It’s about stepping back from the hectic pace of modern living and looking after ourselves; about savoring the small moments of joy and contentedness we experience in life.” This is exactly the type of environment that fosters the effective therapy work I strive to provide.

Research shows that a trusting therapeutic relationship is paramount to success in therapy, so I prioritize getting to know my clients and building that trust.
My clients come to counseling seeking support and understanding. They want to make sense of themselves, their experiences, and the world around them. In my sessions, I offer a nonjudgmental and accepting space for clients to explore what they truly want out of life, what seems to be in the way, and how we can overcome those barriers.
