I have chronic pain due to a car accident over 25 years ago and use what I have learned on my personal journey to help others develop a quality of life.
When I meet someone for the first time, I create a safe place free of judgement and open for them to tell their story. As they speak, I hear their words and voice tone. I look at their face, eyes, hands, feet, whole body, energy and see what they are also telling me. Then I develop a sense of who they are.

Migraine and other headache disorders steal more than just the time we spend in pain . They steal our friendships, wreck our careers, destroy our families, and sometimes even our will to live. Headache specialists estimate that around 40% of those living with migraine also live with depression. The rate of comorbid anxiety disorders is even higher at 60%. There are also links between migraine and bipolar disorder, early childhood adverse experiences, complex trauma, traumatic brain injury, medical trauma, and domestic violence.

My work has predominantly focused on women’s issues, parenting, adjustment, chronic illness , and anxiety.
Are you tired and overwhelmed by it all? So many expectations, the constant “pull” from every area of your life….and the world we live in just keeps giving you more than you can handle and you feel you're not good enough. You want a safe place to sort through it all, but when is there even time to go to therapy to work on all this stress? It takes courage to bear your soul to another person, to find a person you feel safe sharing your deepest thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with. Someone who is non-judgmental, empathetic, and caring. I will help you feel safe, heard, validated, and empowered to make the changes you seek out.

Sometimes our lives become so complicated and stressful that we all need an outside, non-judgmental person to help guide us back to our inner source and wisdom. My therapeutic strengths lie in my ability to create a safe and non-judgmental relationship with my clients to help them quickly identify their strengths and utilize them to problem solve and feel better. I focus upon deep issues to transform tears, heal relationships, and, even, to teach clients how to heal physical illness .
Being a psychotherapist for over 4 decades, I recognize the necessity to honor each client as an individual and to help that client to recognize and reveal true thoughts and feelings. Feeling sad, shy, frightened, furious, or any other emotion can be expressed and healed in the individual and within the family. Timing and destiny are vitally important to reveal and recognize, but even more valuable is to know that our reaction to life's events can transform our world. Whether in the mind, emotions, or spirit all things are possible.

Life can feel very stressful right now due to Covid; many people feel scared and worried, helpless, and hopeless. All transitions and changes can be overwhelming and confusing; they include difficult family relationships, marital problems, divorce, affairs, parenting issues, academic pressures, career decisions, empty nest issues, midlife or existential crises, menopause, job-loss, retirement, aging, terminal illness , care-giving, grief/loss issues, loneliness, isolation, and mortality. If any of these resonate with you, counseling is a good option to help you feel better. Everyone wants to be heard, understood and validated.

In addition to conducting individual therapy sessions for adults, I also worked full time as a group facilitator in the community teaching and supporting patients in various areas of mental health, including depression and anxiety, psychosis, personality disorders, grief and loss, and chronic pain . I did this for both voluntary and court ordered patients. I then expanded my career into a forensic environment where I started working as a therapist for incarcerated individuals. I have worked with a lot of patients that have experienced trauma either as a child, adult, or both and have had great success helping them heal.

Sometimes a seemingly minor event from childhood, or at other times major traumatic events that happen at any age, can overwhelm and stress us. Either immediately after or years later we start to feel the effects of these events. We may feel depressed or angry, feel anxiety or panic for no apparent reason, have unexplained physical pain , or experience difficulty sleeping or nightmares. These may start to interfere with daily life, work, and relationships. If some or all these are your experience, you are certainly not alone.

Clients often seek therapy to reduce emotional pain and/or to solve problems.
I work with high achievers who prefer to work remotely for the convenience. I am a remote psychotherapist for clients ages 20-45. I am licensed in NY/CT and AZ. I have 35 years of experience as a licensed mental health professional. I am Trauma Informed and EMDR trained as well as some training in IFS. I do not accept any insurance at all and am only accepting private pay clients at $150/ session. Clients often have told me that I get to the root of their issues in 1 to 3 sessions. I am looking for clients who are fully committed to the therapeutic process and have some experience with therapy.

Chronic Pain Therapists

How does chronic pain therapy work?

Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?

Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophizing, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.

Are there new treatments for chronic pain?

Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.

How long does therapy for chronic pain take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
