I have 10+ years of experience in behavioral health, and I am passionate about helping individuals and couples recovering from trauma, addiction , self-harm, mood disorders, and relationship struggles.
Life isn't easy. It didn't come with a manual or personalized directions, and sometimes leaves you feeling completely lost. A little help from somebody who will listen, help you feel understood and valued, and give you the guidance you need to get back on track. I want to provide you with a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions and needs; to achieve a healthier mind, body, and spirit. There is no "one-size fits all" approach to therapy. I tailor every session to suit each individual (or couple). I appreciate being able to learn about you and walk through the challenges you are facing.

I graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Masters of Science in Addiction Counseling.
Life can be challenging. My goal as a therapist is to meet my clients where they are and provide a safe space to navigate through their issues together. I specialize in treating substance use and abuse, which in turn leads to the treatment of underlying issues such as trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and low-self esteem. By utilizing an individualistic, strength based approach, I help my clients to find positive ways to cope with the challenges of everyday life in ways that work for them. I am empathetic and kind. I bring my clients into a space where they will not be judged or criticized. I can also provide services in Spanish.

Too often substance use is treated with a one size fits all approach.
I believe that lasting change is a process and not an event. Whether you interested in establishing sobriety, addressing relapse, or have been sober for a while and want to work on underlying issues, I welcome you. I believe that most often substance use is a symptom of underlying issues and people are self-medicating. If these issues are not addressed a person will relapse. I specialize in co-occurring disorders including Depression, Bi-polar Disorder, Anxiety and Trauma. I have over twenty years of both personal and professional experience in addiction recovery.

My specialties are in working with trauma and addiction , both of which, I believe, are experienced by everyone.
What generally brings one into therapy may be multifaceted, but generally includes a feeling of disturbance in some part of life and a hope to receive help in getting through. My approach seeks to reduce disturbance and promote healing by endeavoring to understand the meaning and needs underneath the symptoms and how, through a collaborative effort, symptoms and difficulties can be used to lead one to experience more integration, wholeness, and contentment. This approach can help one deal with issues of the here and now, while also encouraging one to live a life that more fully expresses who they are.

With over 10 years experience working with teens and families, focusing on depression, anxiety, self-harm, trauma, eating and body issues, parent-child conflict, and addiction , my goal is to give teens a safe place to explore their emotions and their struggles, while giving them tools to effectively communicate.
I have years of experience working with addictions, depression, and teen issues. I am passionate about recovery and helping those in need find their own recovery. I work to help individuals let go of the old messages that are mean and belittling to themselves, and help replace them with compassion and kindness. Because, it's when we feel good about ourselves that we are able to treat ourselves well. Battling mental health issues is hard and having someone you feel safe with to explore the deep, dark parts of your soul is where the healing begins.

Addiction Therapists

What is the best therapy for addiction?

Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?

There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?

Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?

The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
