Life doesn't always go the way we envisioned it would. Sometimes we can handle life's curveballs, but sometimes we need some guidance to do so. Whether relationships aren't going well, work or school isn't enjoyable and fulfilling, you feel different or overwhelmed after a new baby, something inside of you doesn't feel quite right, or you just want to discover who you are, I can support and guide you through the obstacles keeping you from living the life you want. I can help with a wide range of issues like trauma, anxiety, stress, career/school pressures, family/relationship problems, affairs, communication issues, and many more.

Stress, anxiety, and unhealed trauma impacts our relationships, our jobs, our families, and even how we feel about ourselves. Chronic stress and unresolved trauma can impact our brains along with our nervous system. When this happens, we can feel as if we are stuck in our relationships & jobs or even trapped in our own lives. Fear & anxiety does not have to control your everyday thoughts and cultivating joy is possible! Choosing to get help is the first step towards healing yourself. I also offer clinical supervision for associate level therapists looking to gain hours towards their license at $125 per hour.

Clients who seek my services tend to be highly intelligent, high-achieving, analytical, creative types who strive for success not just in the workplace. They may have experienced profound trauma, which did not "break" them, but instead propelled them to be the best at what they chose to pursue. Clients may struggle with perfectionism & over-functioning, and as a result find themselves in loops of rumination, maladaptive coping, difficulties in relationships, & just feeling stuck. Clients may understand their issues logically, but their nervous system and "emotional" side can't seem to catch up. Sound like you?

I see you. You’re doing all of the “right” things, but there’s a heaviness you just can’t shake. Maybe it’s the trappings of loneliness, grief, worry, or shame. You can’t remember the last time you felt like yourself, and it feels like it might be this way forever. The wisdom of Ram Dass, who wrote, “We are all just walking each other home,” is central to my approach to your healing. Compassionate witnessing in a safe container is oftentimes all that’s needed to move the needle towards the wholeness that’s already within.

Resilience is adversity reframed. This statement encompasses the perspective that everyone experiences difficult times or situations, but through the storm, we can feel peace and work towards growth. Therefore, it is important that we can lean on our support systems to heal and grow from those experiences. I would be honored to be part of you or your child's journey through the storm. My hope is to help clients feel safe and accepted so they can cope with difficulties they may be struggling with.

Finding contentment in life can sometimes be elusive when we are faced with life challenges. We may feel confused about what to do, or our emotions may be overwhelming us in such a way that we cannot clearly see solutions. Whether you are confronting past experiences or current life challenges, I will work with you to identify goals, process thoughts and feelings, and explore solutions. I work with adults of all ages in my practice and I utilize a combination of cognitive, experiential, somatic, and solution focused interventions. A large portion of my practice has evolved into helping men explore how they can be better partners.

Clients seek counseling for a wide and very personal variety of reasons. They may be dealing with issues in their relationships or career; they may be facing life transitions or the demands of a new role, or be faced with life-impacting decisions. ADHD, substance use, eating disorders, and the challenges of moving through time may present obstacles for individuals, their partners and their friends and families, impairing connection and threatening stability. Trauma, anxiety, insomnia and physical challenges may create additional barriers.

You're ready to move forward, break cycles, and do big things, but you’re still anxious, overwhelmed, and stuck in the same patterns. We'll untangle that in our work together - working to with and not against the protective patterns that have kept you safe. Growing up queer often required adaptation — sometimes silence, sometimes hyper-independence, sometimes performance or shrinking yourself. Those strategies made sense at that time, but they may now be driving anxiety, reactivity, or emotional exhaustion. You're looking for actual shifts and depth, not just more knowledge - you want healing, and growth. I've got you.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
