I work with individuals and couples who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or worn down, often when sex or intimacy has become stressful instead of connecting. Many people come in feeling embarrassed, discouraged, or unsure how to even start the conversation. In our work, we take shame out of the room and focus on creating a space that feels open, safe, and honest. You don’t need the right words or a clear plan, you can come exactly as you are, and we’ll figure it out together.

Do painful, distressing memories from your past keep you from having the life you want? I've helped many people make peace with their very worst memories, allowing them to build lives, love, and futures that had been out of reach before. Together we can help you take back control. Do you struggle with sexual behaviors that you can't control, or with guilt or shame about your behaviors or desires? I also have excellent experience helping clients with out-of-control or maladaptive sexual behaviors, what others often call "sex addiction".

While I am a therapist first, I am a social worker second, and am passionate about addressing the ways trauma impacts not just individuals, but society as a whole. Outside of being a therapist and social worker, I also take care of my rescue kitty, Effitt. When she is not hiding my art supplies, I most enjoy creating mixed media art while perfecting my latest playlist. I also most enjoy time spent with close family and friends, engaged in fun, comedic banter.

Trauma leaves us feeling constantly fearful or numb. The stress and tension in our bodies persist even when there is "nothing wrong." You may be exhausted from feeling this way but powerless to change because no one seems to understand, and nothing seems to work. Whether you have been to countless medical professionals, or this is your first-time considering therapy, you are ready for some relief. You are ready to let go of anxiety and depression dictating your choices, and wake up with a sense of hope rather than dread. You are ready to like the person you see in the mirror.

You've tried to understand yourself. You've read the books, talked through your past, and worked hard to change. Yet you still find yourself repeating the same painful patterns.
If you've ever wondered, "Why do I keep reacting this way when I know better?" you're not alone.
You're not broken. The patterns you struggle with often began as ways your mind and body learned to protect you. While they may have helped you survive in the past, they may no longer be serving the life you want to live.

I will also teach you new coping skills and techniques that will be successful, not only for your current concerns, but across different situations and environments. This lays the groundwork for a more calm, confident and productive you.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
