Hello! My name is Jacob Benites, and I’d love to accompany you on your journey toward a more fulfilling life. If your mind feels like a relentless critic, if anxiety keeps you stuck in overthinking and self-doubt, you’re not alone. I love helping people untangle from anxious thoughts, connect with their values, and move toward meaningful change. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you, because you aren’t broken. It’s about learning to work with your mind, rather than against it, so you can be fully present in your life and create a future that aligns with who you truly are.

I find that my favorite parts of therapy are unconventional. I love when a client tells me they didn't want to come to session but they show up anyway, and leave feeling like it was one of their best. I love when a client brings up decreasing to biweekly sessions, after recognizing they've gained genuine support outside of the therapy space and feel confident in managing between sessions. I love when a client comes in and talks about "random things" they've done and I get to see their passion. (Bonus points when I get to point out how that "random thing" actually demonstrates them getting closer to the life they want to live!).

I have a strong passion for working with many populations, but particularly those with trauma, OCD, autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, suicide ideation/self-harm, queer individuals, and religious trauma.
My work in intensive environments such as the Arizona foster care system, Gila River Indian Community, and inside the justice system has deeply shaped my understanding of trauma, human nature, and resilience. That experience laid the groundwork for my counseling practice, which centers on empathy, compassion, and a trauma-informed approach to healing.

I see my role as guiding clients on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, especially those who feel called to deepen their awareness and reconnect with a sense of purpose. I work with individuals who want to approach their concerns holistically. Many of my clients feel internally fragmented and may view their symptoms as personal failures or obstacles. Beneath these struggles, however, is often a longing for meaning, integration, and a more compassionate relationship with themselves. More than just relief, my ideal clients desire insight, awareness, and wholeness.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
