I am the best fit for a family who has children between the ages from birth to 24 years old. I offer support to families who are struggling with challenging behaviors from their children and adolescents in home or at school. I offer a unique systemic approach that includes parents in the treatment process that is not found in many other practices. This systemic approach is extremely affective and helps keep parents in the loop and helps families complete the treatment goal faster than other approaches. As I believe therapy for children should be brief and solution focused so they can get back to being a happy kid.

Whether I am working with a small child or an adult, I believe that the healing process is a journey of returning home to the authentic self with the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle supporting the exploration. My name is Kayla and I hope to walk along with you on this path, offering compassion, co-regulation, and some neuroscience education along the way. When we can lean into the understanding of our own neurobiology and how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors have come to be, we may also begin to explore where we may have gotten stuck and how we can have a renewed access to the wisdom and assets that our bodies possess.

As a counselor, I believe that as individuals, we experience life through a lens shaped by many environmental, biological, and societal factors. Through better understanding our experiences and becoming aware of these factors that shaped us, we are able to move forward through life more authentically. I believe that finding meaning in life’s pain can bring great healing and that the broken-ness we feel is indicative of the journey of life. I believe that therapy can be a great tool in discovering one’s potential and uncovering beliefs that are keeping us stuck in the pain.

Mary Oliver says, "Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting - over and over announcing your place in the family of things." I truly believe your life is inherently valuable and that your story has meaning. No matter where you're at, or what you've experienced, hope still beckons. Not with a guarantee of certainty, but with a promise of fullness, health, and belonging. I have a strong desire to help people face their biggest opportunities, challenges, and hurt in the pursuit of greater joy, peace, freedom, and ultimately, life.

As a therapist and former pastor, my personal motto is that EVERY.STORY.MATTERS. I truly believe that we are not defined by our wounds and that there is true healing through refinement, redemption, and reconciliation to the self. No matter where you are in this life journey, it is the hope that you can see that the story isn't over yet and you can write the future chapters that you need your life story to be. I enjoy working with individuals, couples and families and hope that I can be a safe place for you.

Currently accepting new clients. Life is an incredible journey. There are times that life events are overwhelming or feel as if they exceed our capacity. These events can lead to anxiety, depression or feelings of being stuck. This level of stress can result in problematic relationships, low self-worth or lack of progress.

Adlerian Therapists
How does Adlerian psychology work?
In the framework of Adlerian therapy, people are motivated by a sense of belonging and community, which drives them to surmount feelings of inferiority so as to contribute to their society; fulfilling these desires can help people flourish. Adlerian therapy proceeds in four stages—engagement, assessment, insight, and reorientation—in an overall effort to understand the client’s past and to achieve their present-day humanistic goals.
Is Adlerian therapy humanistic?
Yes, Adlerian psychology is humanistic; it focuses on the whole person, emphasizes their strengths rather than just their symptoms, and centers them in determining how they can grow and flourish. This school of thought informed the work of Abraham Maslow, who went on to develop humanistic psychology.
How long does Adlerian therapy take?
Adlerian therapy is a short-term, goal-oriented form of therapy that takes around 15 to 20 weekly sessions. Of course, some people may be in therapy for a shorter or longer time frame; length depends on the individual and the problem or condition they wish to treat. Clients can ask their therapist about the timeline for treatment before they begin and check in periodically to ensure that they’re on the same page in terms of progress.
Is Adlerian therapy evidence based?
There is not as much evidence to support the effectiveness of Adlerian therapy as there is for other types of therapy such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. But Adlerian therapy may be the right therapy for some people—whether they’re seeking to treat mental disorders or achieve self-growth—especially those looking for a holistic approach that emphasizes relationships, community, self-worth, and purpose.
