When life throws “one-thing-after-another” at you the struggle wears on us. Our relationships suffer, conflicts can occur, communication may shut down, and we become more isolated and feel alone. When this happens, you become overwhelmed, anxious, depressed and mentally-emotionally paralyzed at times. The constant stress makes it hard to stay motivated and focus on what’s important. You question all your decisions, big and small, and even simple things in life feel hard. You feel numb and stuck, blocked by feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, when all you really want is to enjoy life, get balanced again and be at peace.

I prefer working with persons who are between the ages of 18 and older. Those who are at a cross-road of life. Those who are struggling with making real life decisions. Are you that person whose asking yourself grown-up questions, 'Where do I go from here, How do I deal with some of the decision that I made that did not turn out the way I thought they should. How do I overcome the shame and embrassment of mistakes I made? When will the pain stop? How do I get to a place where I am at peace with myself and others? Those question will best be address in therapy. I can help you get to the place of becoming your best self. YOU CAN!

My clients are thoughtful people who have been carrying more than most realize. On the outside they may appear steady, but internally feel overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck. Many live with Complex PTSD, attachment wounds, sexual or religious trauma, and struggle with rumination rooted in shame and negative core beliefs. You deserve to feel safe, seen, and truly heard, without judgment. If you’re tired of surviving and ready to understand your patterns, regulate your nervous system, and build secure, connected relationships, you’re not alone. Together, we work to discover new ways living, healing & cultivate greater self-compassion.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.

Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.

How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.

Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
