I also aim to assist those dealing with grief, death and dying in our retirement communities.
Are you feeling unseen, unheard, or invalidated? I see you! I am passionate about making space for those that are not the majority. Whether you’re advanced in years, Black & Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) or LGBTQ I understand being underserved and lacking positive representation. I enjoy teaching realistic skills to reach wellness, cope with grief, love & protect ourselves mentally and emotionally with boundaries. I think outside of the box and incorporate culture with use of creative alternatives like expressive arts therapy, movement therapy, music & scream therapy. Unapologetica authenticity is what we will aim for together!

I prefer working with persons who are between the ages of 18 and older. Those who are at a cross-road of life. Those who are struggling with making real life decisions. Are you that person whose asking yourself grown-up questions, 'Where do I go from here, How do I deal with some of the decision that I made that did not turn out the way I thought they should. How do I overcome the shame and embrassment of mistakes I made? When will the pain stop? How do I get to a place where I am at peace with myself and others? Those question will best be address in therapy. I can help you get to the place of becoming your best self. YOU CAN!

Far too often individuals deny themselves the benefit of therapy because they believe that doing so would be acknowledging their own personal faults or weaknesses. As a masters prepared clinician, I provide a nurturing environment whereby individuals feel safe to explore solutions to their current life challenges without fear of judgement. Building a strong, trusting, therapeutic relationship is the foundation for the collaborative work that will take place during sessions. Individuals will feel supported and empowered to address their current challenges, and reclaim their life.

Starting therapy can be daunting, and I congratulate you on taking the first step. I believe therapy is not something that is done "to you"; rather, it's a collaborative effort where we establish your goals together. I use a trauma-informed care approach that asks "What happened to you?" rather than "What's wrong with you?". I enjoy working with Veterans and first responders.

My private practice is small and focused on people coping with chronic pain, other forms of chronic illness, depression, anxiety, ecological distress regarding the state of the planet and climate change, and general stress management. I believe that intermittent therapy throughout one's life can be extremely helpful. It's not easy being a human - and you don't have to go it alone. If you're looking to build your self-kindness, your assertiveness, and/or your overall health, or wanting to be seen for who you really are - and knowing yourself who this is, I am here to support you.

I'm a psychologist who specializes in helping gifted girls and talented women who were identified as gifted/talented as children. They struggle with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, ADHD (inattentive type), perfectionism, impulse control issues, difficulty managing/regulating emotions, and/or sub-clinical eating disorders. They feel they are underachieving and fear that they won't "live up to" their potential. They are creative, intuitive, and verbally talented, and struggle with self-esteem, question their abilities, and have challenging relationships with their peers. Gifted girls may be bored in school. Some need to skip a grade to be intellectually challenged.

My view of the psychoanalytic process encompasses the developmental nature of our life - of our present and past experiences. Through our communication, we work toward the discovery of one’s independence, creativity, and individuality - that is, becoming a person. The goal with children and with adolescents is to restore them to the path of normal development. A developmental approach is utilized in assessment and planning. The therapeutic time may include play, talk, and meeting with parents. Parental involvement is crucial to the outcome of the endeavor.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
