My treatment approach is based on the needs of each individual and integrates elements of : trauma -informed therapy, art therapy, DBT, strength-based therapy, CBT, REBT, and multicultural and social justice informed counseling practices.
I am a Counselor and an Art Therapist because I personally know how life changing therapy can be. I witnessed a school shooting at Northern Illinois University while I was in undergrad in 2008. I was at a complete loss as to how to begin to understand what had happened. The art program that I was a member of was an incredibly close community. The support I found there, along with individual therapy and my personal art making allowed me to process what I was feeling. This experience directly impacted the direction that I saw my life taking.

I’m a survivor of childhood trauma , and I have had several of the most significant people in my life die in a traumatic and unexpected way.
You're here. You’re ready. You may not know how to get there, but you know that something needs to change. You may have heard a podcast, read a book, or saw an Instagram post that REALLY resonated. You may be able to see that some relationships in your life aren’t healthy, or that you don’t have the best boundaries. You may be able to see the negative ways in which your history has impacted your present day. You may have recently experienced a tremendous trauma - maybe a death of someone you loved deeply. Whatever it is, you KNOW that you want to experience life differently, but it’s so dang hard to get there.

The focus of my practice is to create a safe and accepting space for individuals and families to work through life's challenges and strengthen resiliency skills. We may not have control over all of our circumstances but we each have the capacity to develop healthy skills to cope with adversity. I believe healthy attachments are a critical part of healing, particularly with children and adolescents. Therefore, I take a family systems approach when working with youth. I'm trained and experienced in working with female survivors of intimate partner violence and use trauma -focused approaches in their journey to healing.

I have been practicing therapy as a Certified Trauma Therapist and Licensed Therapist for over 13 years.
My ideal client wants to grow and heal from the past. However, sometimes the past can hold you down. Anxiety, addiction, deep fear, stress, depression, and other unhealthy behaviors can be signs you may be stuck in the past or in a lot of pain. Many of my clients have often experienced events in their lives such as grief and loss, trauma , unhealthy relationships, divorce, neglect, feeling lost and empty, and/or deep rejection. I work very hard to support my clients by challenging them, validating them, and holding them 100% accountable.

My experience working with with neurodivergent people through Trauma -Focused CBT, DBT, and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy will help identify what is impacting you the most.
The greatest power we have is our ability to choose one thought over another. It’s not the situation that affects us, it’s our interpretation. Sometimes it’s hard to take control and begin the process of change, but together we can work to bring mental clarity and mindfulness to begin experiencing life in a whole new light. There is resilience in us all and in our darkest moments we lose sight of our capabilities. No matter where you are in your journey, know there is always another way.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
