Having done my own counseling I know that it is important to find the right fit. I have been a therapist/counselor since 1992 when I began my training at Purdue University. I specialize in marriage/ family therapy , addiction, anger management, and sexual issues. I have 25+ years of experience treating sexual addiction. My overall goal is to "work myself out of a job" by empowering clients to work through core issues, gain needed insights and tools, and make behavioral changes which allow for more success and fulfillment both personally and professionally. I strive to create a safe space and give hope and direction from the start.

Your anxiety is a car on a racetrack of thoughts where the only way off is a brief pit stop for repairs. But that only delays reentry to the same circular pattern. Your mind turns familiar scenarios, images, and disasters over and over again, plunging you into stomach-clenching agony. Stress from work, family , and other relationships only make it worse. The worry and fear get so bad sometimes that they boil over into panic. The shame of losing control causes the cycle to start all over again. So, you become avoidant of people and places, without whom and which, life is simple dull, irritating and meaningless.

I really enjoy doing all kinds of different types of therapy (individual, couples, family , EMDR) for all kinds of different issues (stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, divorce, blended families, grief, relationship stresses, infidelity, parenting challenges, teen issues) I help people get beyond the stuck points in their lives or their relationships, by identifying what is blocking them, discovering the source of this blockage and working together to remove it and/or lessen its effects on them. I aim to help people live more fulfilled lives, be better partners, better parents, and to learn to communicate more effectively.

Addiction is a family disease; meaning it doesn’t only affect the one individual with the addiction, the other family members feel the shockwaves too. My family continues to feel the impact of losing our son 11 years ago, so it is meaningful to me to help others avoid that struggle. I am honored to be able to combine my personal experience with the clinical background to enable families to better support the recovery of their loved ones. I am equally devoted to helping individuals with their recovery and personal growth journeys.

I have completed my doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy and is currently an LMFT in Arizona.
I am passionate about creating a supportive, empathetic environment where my clients feel empowered and encouraged to open up and be their authentic selves. When we feel safe and accepted for who we are, we can step forward and be vulnerable, which in turn allows us to foster deeper connections with ourselves and our loved ones. This is the therapeutic environment that I strive towards, through a mixture of warmth, humor and authenticity. Together, we can work to understand attachment injuries that shape us and our relationships, and generate insight-based change. This space is for you.

Between the phone calls home from school and the changes in their mood and behavior, when your child is struggling it can feel extremely isolating and stressful. You have likely followed accounts on Instagram or TikTok that teach you deep breathing and other calming techniques. You have tried them with your child time and time again, but have found little success. You've considered reaching out for help, but taking that next step is difficult because how could anyone understand what your child and family are going through? Friends and family tell you they understand, but they don't.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
