I believe people need to feel good; have the energy of body, clarity of mind and self confidence to be the best version of themselves. I have worked with individuals with disordered eating and body concerns for 30 years and have concluded that how they care for themselves is foundation. I treat anxiety and mood with integrated care; mind, body and heart. I am trained in lifestyle medicine, as well as eating disorders, so whatever end of the spectrum you fall, I got you and I get you. End the end, the relationship with our body and ourselves is the basis of all other relationships. So let's get started!

Together we work to address concerns related to mood, anxiety , trauma, grief, relationship problems, and life transitions.
Throughout our lives we encounter trials and tribulations. There are hurdles to climb and mountains to move. Sometimes, we are able to do it alone, but often we need guidance, support, a change in our thinking and our behaviors. As a psychologist, my experience in working with individuals and their families across the lifespan, focuses on a holistic perspective, to help them climb their hurdles and move their mountains.

The day starts and self-doubt kicks in. Finding the energy to do what you need for others and yourself feels impossible. You're juggling so many roles as spouse, parent, child, business owner, friend, you name it and somehow have lost sight of yourself in the constant pressures of daily life. This leaves you riddled at times with anxiety , sadness, unpredicted tears- ultimately feeling depleted and angry that this cycle doesn't end. Then the secret thoughts begin: "Maybe I'm not good enough or worthy? I have no control. I should have known better. I've failed again..." Communicating these feelings is hard, leaving you stuck.

I have worked with a wide range of clients over the course of my career. Many of my clients want to overcome their anxiety , obsessions, compulsions, and fears . I enjoy finding creative ways to challenge these problems. Together, we can gain further awareness of the problem, explore it, and work toward solutions. Clients that I like to work with tend to be looking for a more value-driven life. They want to overcome their fears by facing the challenge. When the work is done, they can look back at what they have accomplished like looking down from the peak after a long hike.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
