Spirituality
is an important aspect of life.
Is your stress out of control? Are you trying to deal with a anxiety, depression, crisis, or trauma - with family, a job, being a caregiver, or other specific event? Is it affecting more of your life than you want to admit; impacting relationships? Are you avoiding things so you can manage your anxieties? Are harmful behaviors increasing to avoid dealing with these emotions? Fear of abandonment, lack of trust? All of these create issues that ooze into every aspect of our lives, and the lives of those around us. You are important and worth helping tackle these problems. You are not alone. I can help.

spirituality
, ego work, childhood trauma awareness, mindfulness, somatic movement, & the enneagram.
I truly believe healing is not a “one-size-fits-all’ practice. I approach every client with an open heart and mind, acknowledging and honoring one’s truth. I embrace a holistic approach uniquely tailored to fit the needs of each individual client. I focus heavily on understanding my client’s specific perspective on the world and utilize that knowledge to provide the most thorough and compassionate care possible. You are the expert of your own life. It is my goal to provide a safe space for you to turn up the volume on your own intuition, and walk yourself back home.

I have been in the field of psychology and counseling for 30 years with extensive experience in both outpatient and inpatient settings. I have tailored my private practice to provide a safe atmosphere for adults to address the maladaptive behaviors and difficult emotional states that have created obstacles for them and to move to place where they feel empowered in their lives and relationships. I encourage the client to build on their strengths and to promote self-care and wellness. I use EMDR, a revolutionary trauma treatment as well as a focus on attachment, to treat the lasting effects that difficult experiences may leave.

My approach to counseling includes a client-centered approach establishing a strong working-relationship. There are no "one-size-fits-all approaches" to address all problems with all individuals. As a result, I use a variety of approaches working with clients to meet their goals. I seek to understand the impact of a client's life-experiences, family history, personality, values, etc. on their development and relationships with others. I can work with individuals who have ambivalence about making changes & gain insight into problematic behaviors.

“It’s just not working. Maybe we aren’t meant to be. It shouldn’t be this hard. I just need my space. Nothing I do is ever good enough. I feel like we’re just roommates." These are some of the statements that bring us to our knees in relationships, and hopefully get us in the door to therapy. As humans, we are biologically wired to connect with others. Since conception, we have some level of dependency that our society just expects us to “grow out of” as we age. While in reality, we need a secure relationship with another to feel comfortable enough to take necessary risks in our individual lives.

I am a Christian, trauma-based therapist. I work quickly to discover the root issues of the symptoms with which you present, in counseling. While using a Christian world view, my approach to therapy is to utilize EMDR/IFS to heal past wounds, hurts, and traumas that may be impacting you today. We meet clients where they are and integrate
spirituality
as they feel comfortable.

We help folks that are looking for real holistic assessment and treatment to anxiety and mood disorders. Our clients are looking for practical strategies and techniques that make a difference to symptoms right now but also address the the "trunk" of the problem overtime. We help people find the most effective strategies among the many many treatment options that exist today. Our clients often value the role physiology and
spirituality
play as well. They want to be seen as a unique person and addressed in this way. Our clients have benefited a lot or not from talk therapy and in either case are looking for something more.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
