I have worked with kids and their families for over 25 years. My favorite children and teens are strong willed, capable, and smart (academic and/or common sense). I see kids ranging from 3 year old to college students. Some of the most common issues that I work with are ADD/ADHD, Oppositional /Defiant, Depression, Anxiety and Bipolar Disorders. Other general issues are poor social skills, difficulty with frustration, poor communication skills and parent-child conflict. Because so many of the families that I see are struggling with how get along easily, I prefer to include parents whenever possible.

I was born in Salinas and lived in California for the majority of my life. I am proud to have had the honor to serve in the military for five years. I have 18 years of experience providing psychotherapy in California's central valley. I have been licensed in California since 2012 and became licensed in Arizona in 2020. I am new to the Phoenix area and feel excited to start working with the community here as well. My theoretical approach to counseling is eclectic where I incorporate cognitive-behavioral, client-centered, and psychodynamic treatment.

I have been in practice since 1997 and have experience in many areas from inpatient hospitalizations, emergency room discharges, to individual/group settings. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to address anxiety and depression. I believe it is the relationship with the patient and therapist which are significant to build trust and in turn facilitate change. It is important to have a treatment plan to set goals to learn healthy coping skills to address negative thought patterns. The recent years have brought such change in how we work, attend school, have relationships, and work through adversity. Therapy is key.

There are times in our lives when we need help restoring our relationships. As a therapist with 26 years of marriage experience, and significant clinical training, I believe working together I can help you reach your goals. As a therapist I have seen that two things seem to be necessary to start the healing process, mercy and empathy. When a person experiences mercy, it opens them up to experiencing empathy for the other. Using Gottman Method Couples therapy as the foundation, I will work together with you to accomplish the restoration of your relationship.

Oppositional Defiance (ODD) Therapists
All children are oppositional from time to time. But their behavior can become incessantly and openly uncooperative such that it stands out relative to other children. Oppositional Defiant Disorder (or sometimes referred to as "ODD") tends to be evidenced by frequent temper tantrums, excessive arguing with adults, the questioning of rules, active defiance and refusal to comply with adult requests. You may also see deliberate attempts to annoy or upset people, blaming of others, being touchy or easily annoyed by others, frequent anger and resentment, mean and hateful talking when upset, a spiteful attitude and revenge seeking.

These therapists can help with oppositional defiance in Phoenix or provide counseling for parents handling an oppositional defiant kid in Phoenix, oppositional defiant teen or oppositional defiant children in Phoenix.
