Welcome! I'm Jason, and I specialize in working with men and couples. My practice, Phoenix Men's Counseling, helps work with men just like you (or your husband, partner, or relative) with the issues that guys struggle with most, such as stress, depression, cheating, marriage/relationship issues, "nice guy" syndrome (guys who have a hard time saying 'no'), anger, and emotional intimacy, among others. As a guy, I know what men deal with, and work to create a counseling environment that men can relate to, feel heard and find new solutions to their problems. I have 20 years experience working with men.

Therapists should be honest, truthful and direct with clients. I have a commitment to be direct with empathy and compassion to each and every client I work with in my office. Therapy should be solution focused with a clearly defined plan driven by the client. Vague goals, vague results. Today. most clients seeking therapy are seeking relief and understanding within a reasonable period of time. Again, that timeframe should be determined by the client.

Life is difficult and unfortunately the world we live in doesn't foster the belief in asking for help or sharing our feelings. Many people feel disconnected and alone and more importantly disconnected from one's own self. I approach counseling as collaboration between therapist and client with a goal of helping people re-discover their innate ability to heal and become whole again My approach to therapy sessions is to utilize a mix of cognitive based therapies with mindful attention to somatic experiences in hopes of gaining insight into patterns and issues that derail us from living a value centered existence.

My passion is to help men understand what they want from life and to address what is getting in the way. Issues that get in the way include addictions of all kinds, depression, anxiety, and anger. Perhaps a partner is unhappy and suggests change needs to happen and soon, or else. Asking for help is often the most difficult decision for men to make. The pain and fear we feel tells us something is wrong. But if we ask for help what does it say about us? Shouldn't we be able to handle this on our own? The most courageous thing you can do is to reach out to and ask for help. I am offering that help. No Judgement.

Men's Issues Therapists
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
