Trauma comes in many forms and can have an adverse impact on all of us. One of my specialties is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy; this is the gold standard for treating trauma and other mental health challenges. EMDR can help in so many presentations and it helps us address the root of the problem, not just symptoms. Other areas of focus include treatments for depression, anxiety, addictions, and social challenges. Interpersonal relationship challenges include boundaries, family conflict, and codependent behaviors. I do work with families and couples and offer marriage intensives.

With a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health from the Townsend Institute at Concordia University and 20 years of experience in pastoral ministry, I bring a rich blend of academic knowledge and real-world experience to my practice.

I am passionate about working with couples and taking a deep dive into family of origin bonds and their long-lasting impact on our current relationships. I help couples explore early attachment injuries, discover their attachment style and increase awareness of how we show up in the way we relate to ourselves and others. I also focus on working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues and relational conflict. My goal is to help clients recognize the negative core beliefs that are dictating their behaviors and thought patterns and gently exploring their origins.

It is my belief that counseling is one of the most overlooked and underutilized tools to finding healing from life and gaining a clearer picture of our true selves. Having personally overcome loss and tragedy to get here, I have experienced first-hand how trained professionals can help us find our ways past such obstacles. I have worked for years as a speech therapist specializing in helping children with disabilities and different abilities to master the skills necessary to succeed. I have also served as a missionary to Kenya, and I continue to work with the disadvantaged both locally and abroad.

Joleena is Certified in the Treament of Sexual Addiction, is a Certified Betrayal Trauma Coach, a Certified Clinical Trauma and Addiction Specialist, with an Masters of Psychology in Grief Counseling, and a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. Joleena specializes in helping couples working through betrayal and addiction of all kinds. She also works with clients that are struggling with anxiety, addictive behaviors, depression, PTSD, emotional abuse, mental abuse and trauma of various kinds.
