Life can be stressful and filled with challenges. Do you find yourself struggling with depression, anxiety,
family
issues, inner conflict, feeling uncomfortable being yourself, and/or feeling stuck with how to improve your life? Is it hard to relate to others and to express how you truly feel and who you truly are? Having been on both sides of the room, I know how difficult it can be to begin processing one’s experiences and feelings. The most foundational component of successful therapy is positive expectancy. If you believe even for a moment things can get better you are right where you need to be.

I keep sessions interactive, practicing in and between sessions, offering understanding and accountability for the skills needed to shift your
family
dynamic for the better.
Are you and your partner at odds or drifting apart? Would you like support with finding a new way to be together that helps you feel seen, heard and considered? Wouldn't it be great to get things on track for more satisfying ways of being together? Why continue to wish this away or pester your partner to change, turning away or turning against one another in ways that keep you both stuck? I help couples develop skills to set the stage for greater intimacy, security and mutual respect. Let's see if those skills can help you and your partner get there too. Feeling cautiously optimistic? Doubtful but open? Skills can help.

So much of the pain and stress many of us deal with on a daily basis stems from disconnection in relationships with our partner,
family
, or friends. I work with clients from all walks of life, with an emphasis on couples and individuals who are experiencing feelings of rejection, shame, and worthlessness in relationships. If you feel that being yourself is never good enough, if you are struggling to express your needs, beliefs, or feelings, or if there’s a relationship issue you can't seem to resolve, I want to work with you to achieve a lasting sense of relief.

Having self-doubt, putting others' needs before your own, feeling torn between your
family
expectations and what you want, or not knowing how to set boundaries to take care of yourself are all common experiences Latino/a/x go through.
Have you ever looked around the room and thought, “I do not belong here”, “I am not good enough”, or “I do not know how to get through this”? Perhaps these thoughts come up in your work, relationships, parenting, or everyday life situations. Maybe growing up in an immigrant
family
or being an immigrant yourself, you were pushed to be better, do better, or do more while feeling the weight of your
family
, culture and society. Sometimes those expectations could even feel conflicting. Despite life lessons and resiliency that shaped your life, you may feel like something is still missing or some of those thoughts continue bothering you.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
