My therapy style is influenced largely by client-centered, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), trauma therapy, attachment based therapy, IFS (Internal Family Systems), and faith based counseling.
I have worked in mental health for 6 years. I have experience working with individuals, families, adolescents, and ran an adolescent girl's group to teach emotional regulation skills, setting boundaries, and increasing self-esteem and confidence. I fell in love with counseling after experiencing personal life challenges that led me to receive counseling for myself and for my children. I strive to help other individuals take back their lives in the midst of chaos. My role as your therapist is to help you process life experiences in a nonjudgemental, compassionate, and safe environment.

I then help the child grow through these missed stages so that they can operate normally with their family and community.
The "language of children is play." I use expressive therapies like play, drama, sand, and art to help children process their problems and find answers. When a child plays out a solution to a problem he/she has the unique ability to actually experience success in the moment. I have taken extensive training to learn how to help children play out their problems. I am one of a very few Registered Play Therapist Supervisors in the state of Arizona.

I’m a marriage and family therapist with extensive training and experience in couples, individual, and family counseling.
Tell me if this sounds familiar— you and your partner aren’t seeing eye-to-eye on an issue. This turns into a frustrating argument with hurt feelings, and one of you wants to fix things right now, while the other wants a break. In the meantime, both of you feel unheard and are becoming more disconnected from each other. Maybe you aren’t struggling in a relationship, but you don’t have motivation or excitement in life. You have tried pushing through hard days, but it doesn’t seem to be working and you want a new path forward. Whatever your road to arrive on my profile, I am so glad you did. Let me explain how I might be able to help.

Making the decision to seek help/enter counseling can be difficult, often with feelings of fear, overwhelm and discouragement. My approach is to first understand what drove the client to reach out for help, and then provide a comfortable space to discuss what they’d like to be different. Working together to identify treatment goals, and an approach, the client gains confidence in the process and hopefulness in a positive outcome. I provide individual, family and couple's therapy and work from a strength-based perspective and to understand the individual(s) in context of their environment, relationships, culture and experiences.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
