“I know what I need to do; I just can’t get myself to do it." Clients often come to me with some version of this statement. "I need to stop (fill in the blank) drinking, binge eating, obsessively worrying, or beating myself up for my failures. But something in me won’t let me change.” If you've experienced this frustration, you likely know that logic alone is not enough to create a joyful life. As an insightful person playing out patterns you know are harmful, it's natural to spiral into helplessness and shame. The reality is, that to change these patterns, we need to work with, not against, the parts of ourselves that maintain it.

I'm an expert in Exposure and Response Prevention ( ERP), CBT, and EMDR, the gold standard evidence-based therapies for these struggles.
If you, or your child, are stuck in your head all day, fighting off intrusive thoughts, battling constant worry, repeating behaviors, or avoiding anything that might trigger anxiety, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too. Living with anxiety can feel exhausting and isolating, like your mind won’t give you a break no matter how hard you try. Many of the people I work with show up feeling drained and afraid, just trying to get by. What they want is simple but powerful: peace of mind, confidence in themselves, and the freedom to live without fear. If that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the right place.

Anxiety and OCD have a way of misdirecting attention and efforts away from what is most meaningful in life, robbing individuals of the enriching life they desire. In my practice, I am dedicated to helping people unhook from unhelpful cycles of thinking and behaving, reconnect with what matters most to them, and take effective actions toward meaningful change. For some, this means first working together to better understand what your values are and how to get motivated to move towards them. For others, it means diving in to action right away. Whatever stage of your journey you are in, I’d love to help.

Most personal struggles and relationship issues result from problems with the relationship with the self, rooted in relational injury experienced earlier in life. Therapy involves a dual process of understanding and healing the wounds we have experienced; and healing the relationship with the self. Identifying where we are off in our relationship with ourselves helps us to improve self-esteem; have healthy, fulfilling relationships; and take charge of the areas of our lives that feel unmanageable.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.
Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.
How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.
What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
