Many of the people who find me are high functioning adults who carry the world for others. On the outside they look strong, capable, and composed. Inside, they feel anxious, exhausted, or quietly resentful. They grew up in complex families, often in bicultural or Latino homes, where they learned to keep the peace, push through, and put their needs last. I help clients make sense of how anxiety, people pleasing, and family expectations are tangled together, so they can feel calmer inside, set healthier boundaries, and live more intentionally, without abandoning their values or culture.

My practice focuses on individuals who have navigated medical systems and treatments, often experiencing additional trauma through these healthcare encounters. My aim is to help those facing chronic and complex medical conditions such as POTS, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, EDS, MCAS, traumatic brain injury, dysautonomia, cancer, persistent pain, fibromyalgia, and long COVID often layered with early trauma histories . I recognize how developmental history, life events, and medical experiences create layered impacts requiring specialized understanding.

I’m so glad you’re here. I’m Phylicia, the Founder, Owner, and Therapist of Pierced Valley Therapy—a Black, woman-owned and operated space created for those navigating life's deepest valleys in Arizona statewide. I love working with BIPOC individuals, service members, and survivors who are looking for a place where they don’t have to explain themselves, their culture, or their service before they can start their healing. Together, we work to 'pierce the valley'—moving through the shadows of trauma or overwhelm in a steady, intentional way until you reach the light on the other side.

I enjoy working with adults, and the elderly.
Do you feel alone? Or shame more than serenity and self-esteem? This can be due to being depressed, loss of someone dear to you, experiencing trauma, an accident, or recovering from cancer. Perhaps your hope and purpose in life is gone or in question. Or your sense of meaning in life uncertain. I will walk along with you as you walk a path to healing and hope as you process this and grow to feel more confident, less depressed or anxious, and life makes sense again. Life can present many difficulties. Together we can find the answer for you.

Hello, and welcome. I'm so glad you're here looking at my profile. It takes a lot of courage to open ourselves, reveal our past, explore life experiences and bring our insecurities, worries and hopes out into the open. During my career, I've been privileged to work with a diverse population of clients ages 18-95, with experiences spanning the spectrum of mental health and life challenges. My approach is person centered, honoring that we're all different, and as such, have different needs. I believe judgment and shame create barriers to progress, and that looking within can bring to light insights and tools for growth and healing.

Choosing a therapist can be a challenging process. Your therapist should provide you with confidence that she can help you navigate whatever troubled waters you may encounter with compassion and competence. Whatever your current challenges, I am confident that together, we can find and work toward a solution. No matter your choice of therapist, I wish you the best of luck in this process and in resolving the challenges that you are facing.

I have worked with the geriatric population for over two years, and have had clients as young as 7 who all face similar struggles with anxiety and depression that have been effected by recent political strife and economic concern.
Unconditional positive regard is the concept by which I base the treatment of all my clients. People are good and make choices that feel protective and safe for them as they navigate through our harsh reality. The Humanistic approach combined with actionable modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy or somatic therapy allows me to help others achieve self-actualization in the ways that feel right for each client.

You may be feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, identity questions, relationship stress, or the emotional impact of living with a chronic illness or disability. Many people come to therapy feeling discouraged by past experiences or burdened by the belief that something is “wrong” with them. You may carry heavy self-judgment and uncertainty about who you are, where you belong, or how to move forward. If therapy hasn’t felt like the right fit before, you might be unsure whether it can really help, and still be holding onto the hope that things could feel better. I see people in person in Sierra Vista and via telehealth anywhere in Arizona.
