I have worked in the field of behavioral health for over twenty years, and have extensive experience with
codependency
, addictions, trauma, mood disorders, and relationship issues.
I specialize in the messy and beautiful process of being human. I believe that every person has the capacity to grow as an individual and to find meaningful connection and purpose in life. When we become disconnected from our true selves, we lose sight of this central truth. You are the expert on you; my role as a therapist is to walk with you and coach you through the process of discovering who you really are and how you can accomplish a happier and more fulfilling life.

Do you need help with relationship issues or healing from: depression, anxiety, trauma,
codependency
, OCD, grief, or substance use disorder/addiction? I offer a safe place to talk about these things and evidence-based methods of treatment. For those dealing with disturbing experiences, EMDR is a well-researched treatment for trauma/distress. I am EMDR certified and available to therapists for supervision as an Approved Consultant. For those struggling with OCD, I primarily use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).

Looking at
codependency
, love addiction, trauma bonding behavior etc.
Who looks outside dreams. Who looks inside awakens, quote C.G. Jung. I am a doctor in depth psychology with a psychodynamic therapeutic approach. If you notice behaviors, thoughts, or feelings interfering with your life creating depression, anxiety, etc. even addiction, we will work on your insights, and increase your self-awareness regarding intentions and/or behaviors that no longer serve any purpose in your life. Maybe you have long-standing negative beliefs and reactions repeating themselves, hiding in traumatic experiences. Perhaps ongoing questions demand deeper answers. In collaboration we will work on reaching your goal.

Some areas of focus for me include working with issues related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, traumatic experiences, grief,
codependency
, intimacy issues, life transitions, relationship-based issues, alcohol and/or drug abuse, dual diagnosis, family conflict and couple’s counseling.
Accepting NEW Clients. I received my undergraduate degree from Washington State University in Speech & Hearing Sciences, (2000). Through various life experiences of my own, it became my goal to learn as much as I could about addiction and I decided to go back to school. I received a master’s degree in Addictions Counseling in 2018 from Ottawa University and have since completed a second master’s degree in counseling (2022), also from Ottawa University. I utilize an eclectic approach because everyone is different and what works for one person might not be appropriate for the next.

How to know if a trauma-root has you stuck? If yes to any: 1. You find yourself repeating unwanted behaviors, despite KNOWING better. 2. Emotional distress last hrs.-days 3. Attracting drama/ toxic relationships & second guess yourself regularly. 4. Talk yourself OUT of first trusting your gut, or overthink even small things. 5. What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.
What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.
How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.
What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
