I have a special interest in working with those with chronic illness/ cancer.
Life is filled with challenges. It is not uncommon those hurdles you once were able to jump over, now seem unattainable to tackle. These challenges can leave us anxious, depressed or with a sense of loss. Grief and loss can feel heavy and isolating. Life transitions and change can be difficult to adapt to. Seeking support in someone who can truly listen and provide neutral guidance can make a large difference in how you navigate the crazy ride we call life.

I work with individuals navigating grief, serious illness such as cancer, and the unique challenges of Autism and ADHD.
I help people who are grieving a death and need someone who understands loss. You want to grieve well, make sense of what has happened, and find tools for living in a world that feels different. I also support people living with a terminal diagnosis—offering a space to talk about the sadness, anger, and unfairness of it all. In our work together, there is room for the difficult conversations and for the small moments of humanity that still exist, including laughter. Grief isn’t limited to death—it can follow lost dreams, shifting identities, broken relationships, or life changes that came before you were ready.

Trauma leaves us feeling constantly fearful or numb. The stress and tension in our bodies persist even when there is "nothing wrong." You may be exhausted from feeling this way but powerless to change because no one seems to understand, and nothing seems to work. Whether you have been to countless medical professionals, or this is your first-time considering therapy, you are ready for some relief. You are ready to let go of anxiety and depression dictating your choices. You are ready to wake up in the morning with a sense of hope rather than dread. You are ready to like the person you see in the mirror.

Most of my clients are overwhelmed in all areas: mind (anxiety, depression); body (emotional eating, chronic illness); and soul (finding your passion). In the first session, I help clients to prioritize their concerns. But once we begin therapy, clients are surprised that progress in one area often spurs on progress in other areas. Perhaps the night-eating is related to your panic about an oncoming divorce that is related to your difficulty with finding a loved one who will cherish you, rather than chide you? Perhaps all of this angst—along with mood-enhancing foods (sugar, fat, white flour) set off an IBS flare?

Finding the right therapist is a lot like dating — not everyone you meet will be “the one,” and that’s okay. One of the biggest factors in successful therapy is the relationship between the client and therapist. Ericka is known for quickly building trust and rapport with clients from all walks of life, creating a space where people feel safe, supported, and understood. Clients can expect a caring, energetic, and creative therapist who uses both science and humor to help people better understand themselves and reach their full potential. Ericka works with children, adolescents, and adults ages 4–50 who may be navigating big emotions

You’re not broken, you’re doing your best with what you’ve been through. But sometimes those responses stop working, and you feel stuck, anxious, or disconnected. My ideal clients are adults navigating trauma, grief, men’s issues, or major transitions. They want more than relief, they seek clarity, purpose, and healing. They’re ready for therapy that’s active, compassionate, and rooted in meaning.

The reality is that at some point during our lives will need some kind of help. We take our legal issues to Lawyers, medical needs to Doctors, why wouldn't we take our mental & emotional needs to a Therapist? At times, journeying through life can be confusing & challenging. Life is all about connection to ourselves, a partner, family or Creator. Connection takes work! So, when we've run out of resources to deal with issues, we often feel lost. I'm passionate about supporting individuals, couples, & families address challenges associated with life & trauma, because nobody effortlessly waltzes into great relationships.

I have been a therapist since 1977, starting out working in the substance abuse field. I am also a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. My website is www.beverlyjanowitzprice.com. I firmly believe that the majority of our issues began in childhood, some of which can be very subtle. I like to work with people on healing their underlying issues. I believe in using the therapy process to find our true selves and, ideally, achieve inner peace.

Cancer Therapists
How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.

What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counseling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.

How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
