Our daily lives can make us feel overwhelmed, stressed, frustrated, or that we are simply ‘going through the motions’. Life can be messy and sometimes we need a little extra support to keep going. I try to offer a space through counseling that is warm, comforting, safe, collaborative, and free of judgement. In person or online, together, we can work through goals, feelings, and struggles. I primarily work with children and teens ages 3 and up — as well as adults. I specialize in providing therapy through play, art , and viewing the world through your perspective. I am located in-person in the Central Phoenix area.

My mission is to serve and give back through my work in the mental health community and to be an advocate for Art Therapy and counseling.
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” –Aristotle I have been in your shoes. I know what it is like to reach out for help. It can be both scary and exciting, and above all it is brave. I want to support you on your journey. I believe we are all constantly learning, moving and growing in our personal and professional lives. Therapy is a journey of self-exploration. It is both what happens in and outside of the therapy room. I have worked in the mental health field (as a coach, counselor or art therapist) since 2011. My practice is grounded in my values. I value connection. I value compassion. I value creativity.

I use Cognitive Behavioral therapies in addition to EMDR, mindfulness and art .
I Do Not accept insurance. As a trauma trained therapist, I offer a wholistic approach to therapy emphasizing a body, mind, soul and spirit focus. Experts agree that trauma can stay trapped wihin the body causing issues, while negative patterns of thinking and responding can create unhealthy, frustrating, stuck places. EMDR is a proven method which addresses all of these areas together. In addition, I work with clients who express an interest exploring a faith based perspective for healing. Therapy can be a safe place to work together to unwind the stuck places.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
