I work to provide my clients insight, support, empathy, and purpose as they walk down the road of recovery by helping them make sense of their world and clean up their wreckage. I operate from a Christian worldview and Biblical perspective although it is not necessary that my clients share my spiritual convictions. In Ancient Greek philosophy, "Logos" was a word that referred to the divine reason or the power that puts sense into the world making order instead of chaos. This philosophical concept is the foundation for my practice while I assist clients and their families with repairing their broken lives caused by addiction.

I have been in practice since 1997. I am Licensed Professional Counselor as well as an Advanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Certified Clinician (CBT-C) & Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP) to address anxiety and depression. I believe it is the relationship with the patient and therapist which are significant to build trust and in turn facilitate change. It is important to have a treatment plan to set goals to learn healthy coping skills to address negative thought patterns. The recent years have brought such change in how we work, attend school, have relationships, and work through adversity. Therapy is key.

Men and women arrive to therapy seeking a space to process difficult emotions with a trusted, empathic therapist who works to not only listen but to understand their experiences. The desire to be truly seen, heard, and accepted is a powerful but rare human phenomenon. My priority is for clients to feel secure in expressing both their sufferings and their longings. Adult individuals and couples see me upon experiencing a variety of issues pertaining to life transitions with career or family, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, trauma, low self esteem, sexual assault/domestic violence, spirituality, substance use, and insomnia.

Alcohol Use Therapists

Are there specific medications for alcohol use?

There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.

How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
