I specialize in working with hard-working adults who struggle with relationships, trauma, or
grief
.
Does life look good on paper but not feel that way on the inside? You may not even know exactly how to describe it. Your relationships don't feel as fulfilling as you wish they did, and sometimes you even blame yourself for feeling the way you do. You have a sense that maybe your past experiences influence the way you feel today, and at times you start to lose hope that you can feel fulfilled in yourself and your life. It might be hard to remember a time when things didn’t feel this way. But one thing is for sure - you’re ready for some relief and to regain a sense of confidence in yourself and engage meaningfully in relationships.

Whether you’re struggling with overthinking, anxiety, a life transition,
grief
or the long-term effects of being raised by a narcissistic and/or alcoholic parent, I got you.
You are not only good enough, you are BETTER than good enough. I know it may not feel like it at times. The harsh inner critic, the inability to make (or trust yourself to make) decisions, the putting on a brave face when on the inside you just want to scream. The things that keep you stuck are getting in the way of you living the life you deserve. And deep down, you know it’s time for a change. It’s time to treat yourself the way you treat others, with care and compassion. It’s time to find your way out of the vicious cycles that keep you stuck in overwhelm, self-doubt, overthinking, perfectionism, and people-pleasing.

I specialize in treating trauma,
grief
, depression, anxiety, and life transitions in adolescence through adulthood, with skills gained from training in DBT, IFS, and trauma-informed theory.
I am accepting new clients. Life gets complicated, relationships get difficult, traumatic experiences make it difficult to manage or cope with our present circumstances, and we get overwhelmed. Through the work of therapy, you can learn to express and experience your emotions, build healthy relationships, heal past trauma, process
grief
, and create meaning and purpose in life. Therapy helps us develop resiliency and hope - the confident expectation that good will come despite the pain of our current circumstances.

I specialize in working with people struggling with: family of origin issues, depression, issues related to sexuality,
grief
and
loss
, mortality, relationships, significant life changes, and health struggles.
I work with people using a variety of philosophies, but those encompassing humanistic and psychodynamic theories inform most of my thoughts related to psychotherapy. This generally means I am most interested in focusing on emotions, insight, relationships, past experiences, meta-emotion, self-worth, and authenticity. I rely heavily on discussing shame, vulnerability, emotional needs, and creating meaning in life. My work is fairly non-directive, and I will be most focused on helping you find your own authentic path by reflecting and exploring deeper meanings and patterns that arise in our discussions.

My experience with overcoming adversity,
loss
, and trauma makes me singularly attuned to the suffering of others.
Serenity, Equanimity, Peace of Mind. Are these qualities sorely missing from your life? You are not alone. Most Westerners experience rushed living, lack of acceptance, anxious and depressed mood - what inevitably amounts to suffering. While pain is a universal experience, with practice suffering can become optional. But lack of skill, low motivation, and general haggardness of life prevent many from consistent self-care which can alleviate suffering. If this is your story, The Serenity Center was opened with you in mind. Reducing suffering to manageable levels is an achievable goal - and all you may need is a skillful guide.

Life today is filled with multiple losses:
loss
of self,
loss
of job,
loss
of life,
loss
of safety,
loss
of hope. Each one impacts us by taking pieces of our heart, and affecting our ability to feel and walk through life in the way we desire. I have been there, and walked through my own abuse, eating disorder, self and perinatal losses, and NO ONE deserves to walk this alone. There is a life - a YOU - in front of you, through the pain and hurt and fear you may carry close right now.

Are you experiencing a life transition? You may be grieving the
loss
of an important person or pet. If you have gone through a traumatic event, you could be questioning everything you have ever believed in life. Perhaps you feel unsupported, lonely, isolated, or anxious. Sometimes life hands us circumstances that feel difficult and unfair. This can be compounded when we are experiencing stress,
grief
, depression, anxiety, or are going through big life changes. We all need support to grow through what we go through. My role can be to walk your journey with you so you don’t have to walk it alone.

You're here. You’re ready. You may not know how to get there, but you know that something needs to change. You may have heard a podcast, read a book, or saw an Instagram post that REALLY resonated. You may be able to see that some relationships in your life aren’t healthy, or that you don’t have the best boundaries. You may be able to see the negative ways in which your history has impacted your present day. You may have recently experienced a tremendous trauma- maybe a
death
of someone you loved deeply. Whatever it is, you KNOW that you want to experience life differently, but it’s so dang hard to get there.

I look at the developmental stages that a child missed due to trauma or
loss
.
The "language of children is play." I use expressive therapies like play, drama, sand, and art to help children process their problems and find answers.
When a child plays out a solution to a problem he/she has the unique ability to actually experience success in the moment.
I have taken extensive training to learn how to help children play out their problems. I am one of a very few Registered Play Therapist Supervisors in the state of Arizona.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
