Common therapy techniques I use, have been systemic (family systems), solution-focused, narrative, CBT (challenging expectations & thoughts), DBT (mindfulness), ACT (acceptance & commitment therapy),
EMDR
, Experiential & Body Regulation.
First, I want to thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I focus on creating an emotionally safe place. Safe enough to be vulnerable and lean into discomfort. Safe enough to create change that may be desired or needed. My style is direct, compassionate, and caring. When appropriate, I use humor, transparency, and my own quirky personality to help create a safe environment and vulnerability. It is the balance of being client-centered (meeting clients where they’re at) and encouraging change (which sometimes includes calling out BS or respectfully challenging when needed). Im currently offering in-person and telehealth.

With Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention and
EMDR
clients will learn to face these mental health issues and learn to commit to a value-driven life.
I work with clients beginning or continuing their recovery with depression, anxiety, and anxiety-related disorders such as OCD/PTSD. Many of my clients have been struggling for years with their mental health issues and may have been through a variety of therapists. They are looking for new and different ways to approaching their mental health concerns. Fundamentally my clients want to liberate themselves from their struggle with negative thoughts and emotions and move towards what matters in life.

I use specific and evidence-based treatment modalities including CBT, DBT, ERP, and
EMDR
to address these issues.
The one common factor among all human beings is our need for love and connection. We thrive when our relationships are positive and suffer when we are not connecting with our loved ones and it impacts us emotionally and physically. Often times physical pain and illness are result of psychological pain. Unhealthy relationships can lead to anxiety, depression, anger, co-dependency, and addiction that are symptoms and not the root of the problem. I help people with identifying root of the problem so they can make adjustments in thinking, feeling, and behaving and become free of symptoms.

While I use a variety of therapeutic techniques, I specialize in using
EMDR
to help clients to overcome the effects of trauma, whether "big T" trauma, like being in a car accident, or "little t" trauma, like being bullied.
Do you feel like an imposter? Does it feel like everyone else got a rulebook that you didn't? Are you trying to overcome the effects of trauma, whether from a major life event, or from many smaller things throughout your life that have eaten away at your self-esteem? I'm guessing that you have many negative beliefs about yourself that you know, logically, aren't true. It's really hard to turn that logic into true belief about your worth as a human being, though. I can help you to go from just knowing in your head that you're worthy of love and a fulfilling life to truly believing it deep down. That makes a huge difference!

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
