I offer a variety of expressive art therapies for my clients in helping them gain the appropriate skills to deal with every day life.
Are you feeling anxious about new changes in your life? Although exciting things are happening, such as a new career or starting college, it can feel daunting to know what to expect. Sometimes we shut down, and sometimes we act out of character. These are responses to the events around us, and having support can help us feel grounded and more confident. Clients often tell me my ability to understand and relate helps them feel validated and gain more momentum in their progress. Trust in the therapy process is the first step to creating growth.

My mission is to serve and give back through my work in the mental health community and to be an advocate for Art Therapy and counseling.
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” – Aristotle I have been in your shoes. I know what it is like to reach out for help. It can be both scary and exciting, and above all it is brave. I want to support you on your journey. I believe we are all constantly learning, moving and growing in our personal and professional lives. Therapy is a journey of self-exploration. It is both what happens in and outside of the therapy room. I have worked in the mental health field (as a coach, counselor or art therapist) since 2011. My practice is grounded in my values. I value connection. I value compassion. I value creativity.

I’m excited you are here and looking to make some changes to improve your (or a child/teen’s) life and daily functioning! My goal as a therapist is to create a warm, empathetic, and judgment-free space for my clients to work through the challenges they are facing through collaboration with me as their therapist. I understand that a solid relationship with me is necessary for therapy to be successful and that therapy can be an intimidating process to begin. Because of this, I come into every session with patience, empathy, no judgments, and the willingness to be flexible in my approach.

First, I want to thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I focus on creating an emotionally safe place. Safe enough to be vulnerable and lean into discomfort. Safe enough to create change that may be desired or needed. My style is direct, compassionate, and caring. When appropriate, I use humor, transparency, and my own quirky personality to help create a safe environment and vulnerability. It is the balance of being client-centered (meeting clients where they’re at) and encouraging change (which sometimes includes calling out BS or respectfully challenging when needed). Im currently offering in-person and telehealth.

Are you seeking an unbiased person open to listening and discussing your thoughts? Sometimes we all need that! Life often brings us curve balls in the form of relational, career, racial, marital or family conflict that cause us to question who we are. These situations rattle our emotions to our core or change the normality that we call our life. During these times the ability to work through this with someone who specializes in transitional change maybe the answer!

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
