Psychodynamic Therapists in Mesa, AZ
My ideal client is someone who feels overwhelmed by the weight of their past, struggling to make sense of trauma, identity, or relationship patterns. They may be navigating cultural or intergenerational conflict, faith crises, or emotional disconnection within their family or partnership. Whether it's a teen managing anxiety and self-harm, a couple stuck in cycles of miscommunication, or an individual healing from spiritual or childhood trauma, they long for clarity, connection, and relief. They want to feel seen and understood without judgment. Most of all, they want to reclaim a sense of self and move forward with intention.

I deeply believe in everyone's right to be their authentic self and to live their truth. I love working with folks on the sexual, affectional, relational and gender spectrums, including non-traditional / non-monogamous individuals. I'm passionate about providing affirming care and support.
I also really enjoy working with folks who are in the process of spiritual and/or religious transition and those struggling with religious trauma. It is my joy to help folks find their own authentic spirituality, in whatever way they choose.

Hi, I’m Amanda, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 10 years of experience supporting individuals through life transitions, stress, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. I believe therapy doesn’t have to wait for a crisis — it can be a meaningful space to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and gain clarity during change. I offer a supportive, nonjudgmental space for those feeling overwhelmed, burned out, or stuck. I’m especially passionate about working with individuals exploring purpose and meaning, especially during transition, loss, or heartbreak.

Using CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy, and ACT, we work on organization, follow through, emotional regulation, anxiety, and the beliefs and reactions that can make lasting change difficult.
You may feel capable and motivated, yet frustrated by how hard it is to follow through, stay organized, manage time, or regulate emotions. You may know what you need to do but still feel stuck in patterns that keep repeating despite genuine effort. I work with adults with ADHD, anxiety, social anxiety, depression who want both practical help and a deeper understanding of themselves. Together, we build skills, explore the beliefs and emotional patterns behind what keeps getting in the way, and find realistic ways to create lasting change.

Many people come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, trauma, or confusing relationship patterns that leave them questioning themselves. You may feel stuck in cycles you can't fully explain, struggling to trust your instincts or understand why certain experiences continue to affect you.
Often these struggles are rooted in unresolved trauma or relational wounds from past experiences. Many clients I work with are recovering from emotionally harmful relationships or navigating major life transitions that disrupt their sense of stability and identity.

Hi! We are so glad you are here! We offer a casual, open approach to therapy that includes humor, swearing, art, mental exercises, tears, and hope for the future. Our approach is based on learning more about why we are the way we are to then show understanding and compassion. As we explore with curiosity we discover the reasons behind what makes us the way we are and gives us a sense of compassion, empathy, and validation towards the parts of ourselves we like the least. We love working to develop a strong supportive relationship to learn about and celebrate our clients.

I believe that people have the innate power to positively change the course of their lives with a supportive environment. When you are in a challenging situation, you naturally feel ambivalence about change since it requires letting go of the familiar for something unknown. If you're looking for extra support and guidance to get through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
