It can be difficult to stay positive and confident without professional support. Is it a goal of yours to become more empowered, to take the reigns and create the life of you dreams, to refuse to be buffeted about feeling as if you have no control?

Everyone should be accepted and loved for being their true self and living life authentically. We never know when it’s our last day, so why should we spend more of our time in situations that we don’t prefer. I spent over 40 years in the Midwest before moving to sunny Arizona and pursuing my dream job as a therapist. I am a “mature” individual with a broad array of life experiences. I enjoy working with adults who are new to therapy and may have never spoken about their problems. My style is open, authentic, empathetic and direct. I will be your biggest cheerleader as you grow and heal from your trauma.

Mary Oliver says, "Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting - over and over announcing your place in the family of things." I truly believe your life is inherently valuable and that your story has meaning. No matter where you're at, or what you've experienced, hope still beckons. Not with a guarantee of certainty, but with a promise of fullness, health, and belonging. Ever thought to yourself, "I should be able to handle this, it really isn't that bad compared to what others have gone through"? If it matters to you, it matters. Maybe you don't have someone in your life right now that you feel you can talk to about certain things. You aren't alone; many people experience this. I really enjoy meeting a wide variety of people because while you may learn a lot about yourself in therapy, I always end up learning something from you. I consider it a gift and a responsibility to be entrusted with what you need to talk about. I work primarily with adults.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
