What I have found is that most people are looking to feel significant, connected, validated, and content. People are exhausted trying to maintain a perfect lifestyle, raise the best kids, be the best spouse , friend, and volunteer they can be. They are trying to look amazing and maintain joy while doing everything for everyone else. Without even meaning to, people are piling more "to do's" on the list, more pressure on their life, and more expectations on those around them. And, at the end of the day, they feel tired, resentful, underappreciated, and are dreading the next day when they have to do it all over again.

I also do couples therapy using the Gottman Method to strengthening relationships and resolve conflict.
Are you feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, or like you are having a difficult time coping with life right now? You are not alone! I understand how challenging it can be to feel stuck and wanting to have more peace in your life. I fully believe the statement by Jon Kabat Zinn who said, “As long as you are breathing there is more right with you than wrong with you.” My goal as a therapist is to draw out the strengths that you already have and help you build new skills in order to face the challenges, transitions, and stresses that you are facing in your life.

In the therapeutic relationship , I greatly value collaboration with you, the expert in your own life.
Hi there! If you’re looking to prioritize your peace and joy, to heal your mind and body from living in survival mode and experience thriving, we might be a great fit. I work primarily from a relational perspective (your relationship with yourself, your relationships with others, and your relationship with the world) because I believe that our deepest emotional wounds (which can manifest as mental health concerns) come from disconnection with ourselves and others. In order to heal then, according to interpersonal neurobiological research, we need the corrective experience of safe, compassionate relationships.

Wellness comes from balance in all the areas of our lives: emotional, physical, social, and spiritual. Often things come up that tip the scales beyond what we can handle on our own. In counseling we work together to help you find that balance again, develop skills where needed, and work to move you into a healthier place. With a strong background in biology the approach to counseling is very solution focused and takes into account the natural tendencies and responses that may work against wellbeing. I work with couples and individuals looking at issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, and ADHD.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
