I particularly enjoy working with couple's on relationship issues, and providing brief therapies for insomnia.
I believe people do what makes sense to them based on their perspective and experiences. Sometimes these approaches are not effective despite our best efforts and intentions. I seek to understand where you are coming from and help you to find more effective ways of managing your situations. My goal as a therapist is to help you gain more control and mastery over difficult aspects of living. If you approach therapy honestly and are willing to try new ways of coping, I am confident you will have a beneficial experience in therapy.

The footprint of trauma can show itself as difficulty at work, unhealthy relationship patterns, anxiety, depression, or a lack of sleep.
Within the power of EMDR therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy is the foundational understanding that healing and freedom from trauma and the past are possible. We may also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy and other interventions for PTSD, OCD, addiction, anxiety, personality disorders, bipolar disorders, grief, self-harm, and dissociation.

In a session with me, we will work together to learn new and healthy ways of coping, identify and express emotions both past and present, and continue to make steps forward for a future worth living.

Do you find yourself constantly looking to others for reassurance, approval, or validation? Are you hard on yourself in ways you would never be toward someone you love? Many of the women I work with are thoughtful, capable, and deeply caring, but they feel depleted. After years of being the responsible one, the accommodating one, the one who holds everything together; anxiety, resentment, and burnout quietly creep in with damaging effects. Therapy can help you reconnect with yourself again. I believe the greatest gift we can give the people we love is our own healing and a more regulated nervous system.

Maybe you've been thinking about therapy and are skeptical. Let me assure you that any time someone takes a step to do something different, it is going to come with some unknowns. One thing you can be certain of, in this space, you will be received with compassion, attention, and the room to breathe. Maybe others around you can see your great potential but you struggle seeing it in yourself or maybe you've lost your zeal in life from the everyday mundane. No matter where you land, you will be supported in accomplishing your goals.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists
How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
