I am also a national speaker on suicide bereavement.
I believe therapy is not about changing who you are, but about letting go of who you're not. As a partner and guide for adult individuals and couples, I integrate mindfulness, relational, and cognitive therapies to help you identify and transform irrational thoughts, unhealthy coping strategies, and behavior patterns that may have steered you off course. Through this process of compassionate self-awareness, new perspectives emerge, building confidence in decision-making based on your values, improving communication, and fostering the creation of healthy, fulfilling relationships with yourself and others.

Life can be difficult to navigate, but when we learn to use our strengths our curiosity can begin to grow. Therapy is challenging yet the process when met with self-reflection and honest conversation allows for learning to live in true freedom. We are harmed in relationship; however, it is through relationship we are healed. Learning to connect with others provides the safety we need to find meaning and purpose.

Sudden loss can turn life upside down. If you’re here because you’re trying to make sense of something you never imagined, you’re not alone. Grief shows up in many ways, and there’s no “right” timeline. My approach is steady, practical, and tailored to what you need right now. We start with understanding your story and identifying the pressures that feel hardest to manage. From there, we build skills and supports that help daily life feel more workable. Some clients need help with sleep or moments that replay. Others need help reconnecting with people or routines that once felt normal.

You’ve spent so much time taking care of everyone else that you’ve forgotten how to care for yourself. Even with all that you’ve achieved, that inner voice keeps whispering that it’s not enough—and neither are you. You find yourself overthinking conversations, doubting your worth, and feeling emotionally drained. Some days, it’s hard just to get out of bed. But you don’t have to keep living this way. Today can be the day you choose you.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
