It is in the experience of others and our own that at one time or another all of us have faced, is facing or will face some kind of adversity, distress, depression,
anxiety
, loss, abuse, neglect and trauma. During these seasons in life, fear, loneliness and/or being overwhelmed can feel as if we are stuck in quick sand. The more we fight to get out of the quicksand the more we sink, and hope can diminish. Clients say we meet them exactly where they are in their struggle. We learn the core challenges that are in front of them and together work towards a solution.

Asking for help is no easy task. Whether looking to help yourself, your relationship, or your career, it can be scary to admit vulnerability. However, despite some popular beliefs, therapy is not about “fixing” something that is broken; it is about understanding the nature of your difficulties and working with your strengths to see yourself through it. I strive to offer compassion and understanding to help you identify your current barriers in life while also helping you resolve deeper emotional distress. I provide a warm and caring space for reflection and to help you process your needs.

Something very real and important has brought you here for help. Finding the right therapist, and most importantly - someone you can trust - can be challenging! I believe that you are the greatest expert in your own life; my role is to help you listen to that authentic and intuitive voice in order to bring about change. Underlying
fears
and beliefs about our own shortcomings lead to emotions that can become overwhelming, all-consuming and even paralyzing. Beliefs such as “I am not good enough,” “I am worthless,” "I am broken," or “I am a failure” result in suffering & missed experiences - holding us back from truly enjoying life.

I specialize in helping individuals heal from PTSD, trauma,
anxiety
, and low self-esteem.
Life and the emotions that come along with it can be overwhelming. Maybe you've realized how much it's taken its toll on you, and you're tired of pretending you're ok. You may often feel "less than" and find yourself working hard to please others. You feel there is something wrong with you. You find it difficult to be in present moment. You have intrusive painful memories from the past or worry often about the future. You are tired of feeling miserable and the best solution you've found is to avoid or numb emotions all together. It feels easier to "check out" from life than to feel the pain that has been buried so deep.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
