Hello! My name is Michelle and I have been working in the mental health field for nearly 20 years. I work with couples, families, and individuals. I specialize in guiding people through seasons of distress as they work to identify the barriers that may hinder them from living a full and rewarding life. Most of all, I find joy in empowering others to change. I am trained in EMDR and I specialize in trauma recovery, infidelity, marriage restoration, boundary building, and grief work. I also work with families who have loved ones affected by disabilities and the associated challenges, including caregiver fatigue.

Honoring your decision to seek therapy is one that I deeply respect. Finding the right therapist requires vulnerability and courage, and I am committed to showing up for you with the care and intention needed in your process of healing, growth, and empowerment. I am deeply passionate about supporting individuals and relationships as they explore themselves with curiosity, compassion, and authenticity. My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that our struggles are not signs that something is “wrong,” but rather indications that something important is asking to be understood.

Life truly is a wonderful gift, yet it often comes with pain and hardship. Sometimes more than we can bear. First, let me acknowledge the depths of your suffering and the courage it takes to seek support. If you're ready to finally move forward, it would be my privilege to join you on your path toward healing and resilience. I work with Christian men and women, to help them find the root cause of their problems so that together we can cultivate the flourishing person they were created to be. Together, we’ll work towards healing at your own pace in a nonjudgemental environment that is person-centered, and laughter is always welcome.

I offer in-person and telehealth sessions on Monday, Thursday, and Friday!
Life can feel heavy at times, especially when you’re carrying stress, anxiety, or emotions that feel hard to sort through on your own. I want you to know how brave it is that you’re here, ready to take that step. Whether you’re a pre-teen, teen, or adult, my goal is to help you make sense of the challenges you’re facing so you can begin to feel more like yourself again in a calm and grounded way. You don’t have to continue suffering alone without any relief.

Have you tried therapy before, but found it draining or less than helpful? Many people engage in therapy only to address symptoms, without addressing their root cause. My goal is to create a safe space for clients to explore their past and present in order to move into their future with confidence. My authentic nature and strengths-based approach help me build rapport and find buy-in with clients who have difficulty opening up, as well as with those who struggle to see themselves making positive changes in their lives.

I am a Catholic-Christian therapist who works with clients from various cultural backgrounds and languages (English, Spanish and Portuguese). I work with clients on issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, post-abortion healing, and trauma. For those clients who have a Christian background, I use my faith to integrate different therapies according to my clients' needs. I believe faith in God is one of the most powerful strengths that helps the healing process. However, I respect the values and beliefs that my clients present in therapy.

Many of the struggles we face in life can be traced back to coping patterns we developed in response to difficult or painful experiences. While those strategies may have once helped us get through tough times, they can later hold us back and prevent us from living the life we truly want. Change isn’t easy, but it is possible—and it’s worth it. I have discovered that people can, and do, learn new skills and ways of coping that lessen their personal burden and enhance their lives. I believe that when we are able to face the “darkness,” we can remove its hold over our lives and begin to see life in a new and brighter light.

I aim to provide a safe and nonjudgmental environment to help others get through the messy middle we call life. I have been in the social work field for fifteen years and enjoy working with adolescents and adults. My goal in working with my clients is to assist in the therapeutic process and allow individuals to gain insight that allows for change to occur. To name a few specialities, I have worked with betrayal, addiction, trauma (EMDR trained), and day to day stressors of life. Integrating a holistic approach and addressing the mind, body, and spirit allows for deeper change and growth to happen.

FAQ - About Telehealth Therapy
Is online therapy as effective as in-person?
Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?
One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?
Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?
The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
