I approach therapy with a family systems perspective.
My desire is to help people live to their fullest potential. To live an abundant life, both personally and relationally, one must also be willing to face the hard things we often protect. I have learned firsthand that if things are not discussed openly, much damage can be done internally. I work to provide a safe, sacred space to explore and work through life’s sore spots and find ways to cultivate healing and transformation. I have a heart for healthy, authentic family communication, grief work, life transitions, sexuality, body image, sexual intimacy issues, and individuals in later adulthood.

I enjoy spending time with my family (and I have 3 beautiful grandchildren) and friends, eating meals together, walking, cooking, singing, dancing, playing games, hiking, going to concerts and live sports events, being in nature, and staying at a family cabin in the cooler country of Arizona.
You are courageous for seeking help. I consider it an honor to be entrusted with and hold your story, helping adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families. Attachment tells us that we all have basic longings, basic fears, and basic needs. John Bowlby says, "It is isolation for us that is most traumatizing of all."

My particular areas of strength are treating anxiety disorders, OCD, depression, eating disorders, women's issues, body image & self-image struggles, and relationship/ family problems.
I've been in the business for over 17 years and have a passion for providing competent counseling services within a Biblical framework. While I have a desire to integrate theories/strategies of psychology with Christian faith, I allow the client to determine what concentration of faith, if any, they prefer in the session. I would enjoy the chance to sit down and hear your story and offer feedback, wisdom & practical skills. I have a light-hearted & laid-back personality & enjoy supporting teenagers (11+), adults, families & couples through challenging times. Facing life's difficulties need not feel so burdensome or be braved alone.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
