I take clients from all different backgrounds and presenting problems. Most of my clients have complex problems that start as internal struggles from depression, poor mood regulation, anxiety, racing thoughts, over-active anger , poor self-esteem, and judgment of self and others. These issues turn into interpersonal and relational problems that create felt chaos and cyclically feed those internal struggles. Clients often come in focusing on the outside chaos and miss the internal factors.

Depression, anger , shame and anxiety can rob us of a sense of control over our lives.
You ever feel like cocooning? You know, when you just want to shut out the world. For many it happens when relating to others feels draining, work is no longer fulfilling, or when it’s hard to feel good about anything. Life feels so heavy that it’s as if there’s no way out. This is how depression and anxiety can feel.

Over the past 39 years, I've worked with hundreds of clients experiencing depression, anxiety, sexual issues, spiritual concerns, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, parenting issues, PTSD, anger problems, low self esteem, grief, guilt, jealousy and self doubt.
I have been a therapist since 1978. I taught undergraduate and graduate Psychology courses at Ottawa University (11 years) and Rio Salado College (17 years).I specialize in OCD and obsessive sexual behaviors but have treated nearly every type of client and diagnosis over the past four decades. I'm told I'm personable and that people feel comfortable with me immediately. I'm a good nonjudgmental listener and I believe that counseling should be a deep but intriguing investigation - not a painful one.

My main areas of treatment are helping individuals and couples dealing with emotional struggles (depression, anxiety, anger , grief, fear, confusion, jealousy, negativity); Compulsive behaviors/addictions (love addiction, sex addiction, codependency issues, impulsive behaviors); and social issues (assertiveness, communication, bullying, teen issues, self-esteem, peer pressure/external validation, and forgiveness).
Have a problem? Let's begin to solve it! Therapy is much more than just having someone to talk to, psychologists are professionally-trained listeners who can help you get to the root of your problems, overcome emotional challenges, and help you make positive changes in your life. We all have problems and make mistakes; it's the choices we make while dealing with these struggles that will have an impact on our lives. I'd love to be your partner in the recovery process where we move from a state of pain and confusion toward hope, healing, and happiness.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
