In addition to working with children & families, I help women with particular issues, such as infertility, post-partum depression, breast cancer, assertiveness, and creating healthy relationships.
As a psychologist, I find it most important to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment, where children, adolescents and adults feel comfortable and understood. I often work closely with parents and children, teaching "tools" that help families function better. These include respectful communication, anger management, and how to deal with excess anxiety or depression. I believe the past affects our present, and our thoughts affect our feelings and actions. I provide the skills that allow clients of any age to confidently move forward to a happier, healthier place.

My clients achieve practical, reliable tools to overcome anxiety and depression. Many are mothers who value my deep understanding of their unique challenges—shaped by my experience raising a large family. Others come to process the lasting impact of trauma or loss, work through their pain, and rediscover a sense of joy. Having lost both of my parents within four months, I understand the profound cost of love and the depth of grief that follows. This experience has also led me to offer home visits for clients with limited mobility. I’m especially passionate about helping people build strong self-esteem and meaningful life stories.

We begin by creating a collaborative therapeutic relationship, work to create a safe, confidential dialogue to openly share your struggles.
It is in the experience of others and our own that at one time or another all of us have faced, is facing or will face some kind of adversity, distress, depression, anxiety, loss, abuse, neglect and trauma. During these seasons in life, fear, loneliness and/or being overwhelmed can feel as if we are stuck in quick sand. The more we fight to get out of the quicksand the more we sink, and hope can diminish. Clients say we meet them exactly where they are in their struggle. We learn the core challenges that are in front of them and together work towards a solution.

I’m here to help you feel less overwhelmed, stuck, hopeless or helpless. To help you quiet your brain/body, organize your thoughts, and figure out not just where all this stuff comes from, but what you can do about it. Sometimes I help people find answers inside themselves they already knew, sometimes I help people get outside of themselves and use insights from our fellow humans, from nature, science, spirituality, philosophy, you name it. I’m a straight talker, AND I don’t judge— literally, I can teach you how to use a nonjudgmental stance— and possibly most importantly, I bring some FUN to this process!

As a child of immigrants and a Muslim raised between the U.S. and the Middle East, I carry a unique perspective that blends both cultures and the experience of being a Muslim in America. This cultural awareness has deepened my understanding of the challenges many face in navigating multiple identities, and I bring that insight into my therapeutic work.

Your mind won’t stop racing—and your body feels like it’s constantly on alert. Maybe you wake up tense, your chest tight, thoughts already spinning about everything that could go wrong. You’ve tried to calm yourself, but the anxiety keeps looping back, sometimes turning into full-blown panic. You’re exhausted from worrying, yet afraid to slow down. You want to breathe again without waiting for the next wave of fear. Therapy can help you break the cycle and feel steady in your body and mind again.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
