My years of experience working in hospitals, schools, and community clinics prepared me to work with a range of presentations, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, disruptive behaviors, trauma, OCD, and more.
Are you wondering how to support your struggling child? Maybe you're a struggling young adult. I help children to young adults (ages 2-25) who have behavioral and emotional challenges through evidence-based treatment. Using a collaborative approach, compassion, and empathy, I identify the intervention that best meets your goals. During sessions, I create a friendly, warm, and welcoming atmosphere to help make clients comfortable and get the most out of therapy. By the end of treatment, I have seen clients leaving feeling more empowered, happier, and better equipped to cope with future challenges.

I believe that everyone deserves to be heard, regardless of their background or circumstances. Whether you are struggling with excessive worry or negative thoughts, overwhelmed by schoolwork as a student, supporting a family member with autism or developmental disability, or facing challenges as a member of a marginalized group in society, it is common to feel hopeless and worthless at times. However, you do not have to give in to these feelings. Together, we will overcome obstacles by empowering you, developing strategies for managing negative feelings, improving your self-identity, and gaining a deeper understanding of yourself.

I have experience with depression, self-esteem challenges, behavioral issues, issues within the relationship and family bond, and bipolar disorder. These are a only handful of the client's I have worked with. I have experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger's ; however, I've worked with all types of Intellectually Capable individuals. I've also done a lot of work with parents both in the home and on the residential level. And I love working with couples.

I come with passions for working with the neurodivergent population (specifically with ADHD and Autism and unpacking a late realization), providing gender-affirming care, sex-positive counseling, disordered eating, and body image, managing and processing chronic illness, and identity work through a trauma-informed and all-inclusive perspective.
I understand counseling to be a place in which with collaboration, relationships, and trust, an individual can begin to craft the life they want to live by meeting themselves where they are at. Through an intersectional lens, it is my priority to co-create a space in which clients can connect with their whole experience and identities in creating the foundation for an abundance of growth. I understand clients to be the expert of their experience and the work we do to be inherently collaborative.

I specialize in providing neurodiverse-affirming therapy. What does this mean? It means that my therapeutic approach is to help you embrace your differences while still trying to navigate a neurotypical world and expectations. Usually, the clients I see in my practice are adults who have trouble navigating life transitions and are usually on the spectrum of ADHD, Autism, OCD, Anxiety, and/or Depression. I don’t believe people necessarily fit in a neat little box that is labeled with a mental health diagnosis. I don’t believe that a diagnosis should be a means to an end for treatment. There’s no one size fits all treatment.

I work with adolescents and young adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or those grappling with executive functioning challenges, sense of self, or sexual identity. A young diagnosis of ASD or ADHD can present so many challenges to the individual and family, but with proper support and education, we can find the strengths and talents that come along with the challenges. On the other hand, an adulthood diagnosis can carry an immense amount of grief and resentment around the lack of knowledge and necessary support in their upbringing.

For 27 years, I have specialized in providing Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with particular interests in treating trauma, substance abuse, autism spectrum disorder, and chronic suicidality which has enhanced my ability to work with people presenting with more common issues of depression, anxiety and interpersonal difficulties.
In my work as a clinical psychologist, I believe the connection between therapist and client to be the most important agent of change. Healing happens best in the context of a warm, collaborative and supportive relationship. When an individual is going through a difficult time or life experience, he or she often feels small, disconnected and incapable of making positive changes on his or her own. In safe connection, it becomes possible for the individual to feel empowered, connected and more flexible and capable of making the decisions and behavioral changes necessary to heal and/or move forward.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
