I enjoy working with both males and females who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, church hurt, low self-esteem, life transitions, relationship challenges, and high-functioning autism spectrum disorders.
Virtual/In-Person (Fort Worth) appointments in TX and virtual ONLY in MD. Life has a way of throwing challenges and uncertainties in our direction that we often feel ill-equipped to face. I believe that strength and encouragement can be found in having someone to process these struggles with us. My goal is to come alongside you on your journey and spend time getting to know you as I seek to listen to, empathize with, and understand your personal experiences. I strive to create a safe space where you can learn from your current thinking patterns, explore new coping skills, and grow in more effective behaviors and thought processes.

I have provided therapy to individuals navigating anxiety, depression, childhood abuse, self-esteem issues, autism, bullying, and PTSD.
Thank you for making the choice to seek help. I know how hard it can be and would be honored to be a part of this next step. Life brings us a lot of changes and challenges that may be difficult to navigate. Perhaps you need help understanding how to cope with your anxiety in certain situations or daily life. Maybe you’re going through a difficult transition. Or maybe something just feels off, and you want to explore what you’re experiencing in a safe place. My hope is that therapy will take you from a place of distress to a place of believing in your strengths and being kind to yourself.

Henri Nouwen says, "real care means the willingness to help each other in making our brokenness into the gateway to joy." Perhaps it is the broken pieces of your life that have brought you to this page - broken relationships, broken dreams or just feeling broken. In this you are not alone, but it is my firm conviction that the broken pieces that are strewn about you can become the very material needed in creating wholeness and peace.

Taking the step to begin counseling can be difficult. Deciding on a therapist to work with can be equally as difficult. I strive to make clients feel at ease and work best with clients that seeking aid in managing anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, and relationship concerns. In counseling being open and honest is one of the most important aspects of the process. As it can be very difficult to be vulnerable, I strive to create a welcoming atmosphere and will always be honest in return to my clients.

I have specialized in working with clients to help them gain greater insight into how their thoughts and behaviors impact not only themselves, but other people in their lives. I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be used as a model for building on relationships with those that matter most to us, outside of the office. I believe that by understanding our past experiences, we can have a better understanding of what is happening currently in our lives, and how we can work together to make changes that align with your values.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
