Neurodiversity affirming evaluations for age 16 years through adulthood. Have you been considering completing testing for ADHD or autism? Maybe your child was identified as neurodivergent, and you relate to the way they think, feel, and act. Maybe you’ve seen information online that has led you to question or self-identify as autistic or having ADHD. If you’ve looked at formal testing, you've seen that lots of places cater to children, or you might have gotten discouraged when you learned that the wait for testing is 6 months+. If this sounds like you, you’ve found the right place.

I previously worked as a Registered Behavior Technician in a pediatric Autism clinic.
Counseling looks different for everyone-it is not one size fits all. I use methods that work for you in that moment and can vary by session. What you may need one day may not be what you will need the next. I aim to give you a safe, non-judgmental space to tell your story how and when you are ready. Together, we will have honest, sometimes uncomfortable but needed conversations. We will address barriers, examine boundaries, set goals, and work towards finding your voice.

As a Neurodivergent licensed psychologist, I specialize in depth-oriented Relational Psychoanalytic psychotherapy and neuropsychological assessments for Autism & ADHD.
As relational beings, we are instinctively wired for connection. It is within the context of relationship that we discover our potential for transformative change. Therapy is a collaborative process of uncovering this potential by cultivating a deep, trusting relationship. I believe it's imperative to provide therapy that goes beyond merely treating symptoms. This is why I take a depth-oriented approach in order for us to discover the root causes & work through barriers. I also believe in the importance of honoring the developmental, biological, sociocultural, and interpersonal parts of yourself to assist in the healing process.

Life can be filled with challenging experiences and obstacles that leave us feeling hopeless, worried, restless, frustrated, or even stuck. Sometimes, we feel lost and confused about our purpose in life. Other times, we can feel unsettled and consumed with worry. Maybe you even feel powerless, like you're going through the motions of the day under a gray cloud and can't seem to find the energy to move forward. If this resonates, I will help you process your feelings, guide you through useful coping strategies, and ultimately work alongside you to reach your therapeutic goals.

Young professionals and adolescents can find it difficult to adapt in a world that is constantly changing and setting new standards for beauty, success, and self-worth. The ability to feel at home in your own skin and make important choices about family, friends, and partners can be exceeding difficult in today's world. It takes courage to let someone into your life story and even more courage to make meaningful changes in your life. I understand what it is like to go on that journey of self discovery, and I welcome the opportunity to help.

Autism Therapists

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
