I have been working in the mental health field for about 6 years. I currently moved to Texas from Mississippi after residing there for about 4 years. I have lived in other parts of the US; however, I am glad to be back in my home state. For the past 2 years, I have worked with children and youth ages 10-18 in the school setting. Referrals received mostly came from the schools regarding behavioral concerns at school, such as disruptive behavior in class, frequent counseling visits, poor grades, and attendance. The clients I worked with often had previously been diagnosed with ADHD, depression, MDD, anxiety, and non-suicidal behavior.
My therapeutic approach is CBT, DBT, and TF-CBT. I have learned that these approaches work well with children and youth. These approaches are what I am most skilled in; however, I have learned that these approaches are not “one fits all”.
I like to think that I have an assertive communication style. I have learned, especially with working with families, that an assertive style helps build rapport, boundaries, and clear expectations.
