The longest journey begins with a single step and I am grateful to walk that path with you. It can be frightening and intimidating to begin the process of therapy; however, that experience can help you to make the changes that lead to a happier and more fulfilled life. Through a collaborative and safe relationship I establish with my clients, progress and change is made. Areas of practice include mood disorders, anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, men's concerns, and ADHD and cognitive functioning (including testing services). I also enjoy working with clients from adolescents to seniors.

Deciding to start therapy is not always easy. It takes courage, commitment and a desire to make a positive difference in your life. If you have decided you are ready to make lasting changes in your life then finding a therapist is your next step. How do you choose the right therapist for you? If you are looking for someone who will listen to you unconditionally, without judgment, who shows empathy regarding your situation, who is easy to talk with and provides a space where you can feel safe, then I might be the therapist for you.

We have openings for clients with Unicare, Aetna Better Health or the The Health Plan between 9 and 2pm. Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction or PTSD? Are you looking for "no shame" treatment that is based on how your brain works and changes? We are a group of compassionate counselors who have collaborated together to offer research supported, brain-based, integrative treatment to those who are hurting. Since different parts of the brain are in charge based on stress levels, treatments are most effective when matched with the part of the brain engaged.

Emotional and behavioral challenges in childhood and adolescence affects the child and rest of the family unit as well. Caregivers often find themselves heartbroken while they watch their child struggle through issues they wish they could take away, and if the child is acting out behaviorally, it is common for caregivers to even feel hurt and confused. I offer therapy services for children ages 3 and up, as well as adults and families for the diagnosis and treatment of emotional, relational, and behavioral concerns, as well as offer support services and psychoeducation to their caregivers and other family members.

Welcome! I'm currently accepting clients and enjoy working with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing barriers to living the life they want to live. The majority of my work has been with helping preteens and teens navigate that fun (and super awkward) transition between childhood and adulthood, and I specialize in working with those who have experienced trauma, anxiety, low self-esteem, suicidal ideation, and self-harming behaviors. I tailor my approach to your specific needs (and comfort level), but most often draw from EMDR, ACT, DBT, and TF-CBT.

My philosophy of healing is like working your way through a set of nesting dolls from the outer doll representing why you want to heal: trauma, attachment/relationship injury, depression, grief, and anxiety. The next doll holds the symptoms, thoughts, and feelings of the first doll. The next doll may may hold your negative beliefs you have perceived about yourself, others, and the world. The next doll may hold consequences and life impairments. The final doll represents your core and authentic self. The person you would be without all of the other dolls in relationship to the unity of mind, soul, heart, body and spirit.

Sometimes issues affecting one family member end up impacting the whole family. Is your child struggling in school? Is your family going through a transition such as a divorce, a move or other such disruption? Are you struggling to communicate with your spouse? Do you have a foster/adopted child who has been affected by trauma? All of these (and more) are reasons to seek counseling. I love working with clients to identify strategies to help you create a happy and healthy environment for your family.

Contrary to what many people believe, not all adversity is bad. Through an intentional and concentrated effort, our challenges can be turned into strengths. Trauma occurs when adversity in life outweighs our available resources. As a EMDR and Trauma Certified therapist, I also incorporate techniques informed by the Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Somatic Experiencing (SE) for a bottom up approach. However, my main goal is to remind you of what we all intuitively know - that healing can only happen within the context of emotionally safe relationships. You are safe here.

If you are seeking assistance with intrusive thoughts or troubling behavior, like checking the locks repeatedly, then I may be of service. I have experience with PTSD, depression, and anxiety. If you struggle getting along with coworkers or even friends and family, we can work to improve those relationships. Isolation does not fix the problem, it further damages those relationships and leaves you feeling alone. Anger and anxiety are natural feelings. However, sometimes controlling them can be easier said than done.

Being a young person today is hard! Navigating pressures at home and school while balancing a social life can feel overwhelming at times. Often, young people have trouble making sense of their world, figuring out where they "fit", and managing their behavior and emotions. They may act out, withdraw from others, or make questionable choices. My focus involves supporting and educating young people and their families so they can manage intense feelings and communicate more effectively. We will pay special attention to developing coping and problem-solving skills while learning how thoughts, feelings, and actions are related.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
