Therapy is about progress, not perfection. You are the expert on what works for you, even if it doesn’t seem clear right now. Together we can figure out where support could be helpful. It takes practice to learn to be vulnerable and to find the words to describe our inner lives. All emotions have meaning, and together we can figure out what they’re trying to tell you.

I specialize in working with neurodivergent individuals and their loved ones. I recognize that all brains learn, process information, and work differently. Unfortunately, the world at large often is not built to accommodate brains that are atypical. How can we appreciate and understand what works best for you or your loved one? My goal is to help each individual recognize their personal strengths and to identify what success means to them.

Former Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius, once wrote, “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” As a mental health therapist associate from South Texas, I realize that therapy goes beyond the diagnosis realm and into a wider space of understanding, attunement, and healing. Renowned physician, Gabor Mate asserted that healing does not rely on getting rid of the pain but in increasing one’s capacity to be resilient to it. I honor you as a human, with many parts and crevices that showcase your authentic self. My approach is geared toward helping you feel seen, heard, and empowered; Be Here Now.

Undergoing intensive psychodynamic psychotherapy is deeply personal. For many individuals, this adventure into unknown recesses of their psyches reveals personal vistas previously unimagined. Such exploration frequently involves painful disclosures, frightening discoveries, an extraordinary development of self-understanding, an increase in capacity for intimate sharing, and an integration of strengths and aspirations. Such a journey, with phases of both pain and exhilaration, usually takes place over an extended period.

My passion is helping folks from queer, trans, and BIPOC communities find empowerment, freedom, joy, and connection in the face of systemic oppression. I believe that our culture disconnects us from ourselves and from each other, and focus on helping clients reconnect. I love helping others tune into the wisdom of our bodies and emotions, and use these as a compass through difficult times. I emphasize self-acceptance and self-compassion, as well as community building. I use a warm, supportive, relational approach to help you find connection, direction, and joy in life. I offer therapy services to any and all individuals seeking support and healing in their lives. Many clients seek out counseling when things in their lives seem out of control or they feel unheard. They want to speak to someone who is unbiased, honest, and who has empathy for their situation. I also have groups available for anger management, parenting, and domestic violence. Many people say life doesn't go according to plan. We all know that to be true. Life goes up and down with many bits and pieces that make our story. As we are going through our life we may not understand or want parts of our story that entail grief and pain. YOUR story is what makes you, what has happened in your life, and what hasn't happened in your life. Many of us tend to have expectations of who we are supposed to be and how to navigate life, that we may forget to live life. Life isn't about pushing through, dread and pain. It's about the hope that pain and loss can be grieved and change can happen in your heart.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
