I work with individuals and families utilizing attachment-based practices, EMDR, and other experiential modalities.
I believe everyone has what it takes to find joy, peace, and love in their lives through vulnerability and connection. After working through my own trials, I discovered that I wanted to help others and decided to become a therapist. I found a love for listening to others and trying to understand how their stories have shaped their view of themselves and the world. I enjoy connecting with people by encouraging them to explore new ways to find happiness within themselves and their relationships.

I find that an attachment-based, developmental lens is best when working with clients.
I love working with clients (especially children, adolescents, and families!) from diverse backgrounds who are looking to find answers and solve any issues they may be struggling with. I am passionate about my work and believe in radical acceptance of all people. I am an LGBTQ+ affirmative psychologist. As a mother of five children, I understand many of the issues that families face and I strive to be a caring, upfront, and empathic psychologist who helps clients work toward achieving their goals. I also offer psychological testing.

Trained in EMDR, I am passionate about trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches in therapy to assist individuals in expanding their emotional intelligence and resilience, and, improving their relationships.
One of my personal mottos is “I am still learning” and I use the same perspective with clients as we work to address your needs in therapy together. Through the therapeutic process, I hope to empower you with greater understanding and compassion for yourself and for what you are learning from your experiences and choices. I am an advocate for educating the general public about mental health. I believe in the power of an individual to make personal and global change. I love helping individuals gain greater insight into thought, feeling and behavior patterns that you feel are no longer serving your best interests.

I use a trauma-informed and attachment-based approach.
I deeply enjoy working with adults with ADHD, anxiety, and/or depression, and those who want to gain a deeper understanding of who they are. You may have the experience of feeling disconnected from others or difficulty knowing how you bring value to the world. If you have (or suspect you have) ADHD, you may feel overwhelmed from constantly trying to fit into a box that wasn't made for you. Together, we will explore your struggles, values, history, and strengths to cope with challenges and begin to feel more connected with yourself and those you care about.

I am Level 1 trained in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and also use Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples and families, which uses an attachment-based lens.
The fast pace of modern life often conflicts with the natural way our brains and bodies respond to multi-tasking, managing stress, and maintaining relationships. It can be hard to find moments of peace or feelings of safety, and even harder to get our minds to calm when we have that space. This can be especially challenging when we have had traumatic experiences or ongoing mental health concerns. If you are struggling with challenges, relationships, life transitions, or mental health, you aren't a failure. You just may need to learn a different way of approaching these problem and to learn to trust all the parts that make up you.

How often do you get curious about the difficulties you face? Have you ever sought support, understanding, or another perspective from someone you feel safe with or trust? There is no shortage of problems or stress in today’s world. You deserve to be able to work through yours with someone by your side. I’m a firm believer that therapy needs to be tailored for individual experiences. I always strive to provide my clients with the best possible approach in a welcoming, relaxed environment where you can truly be yourself. I’ve found that humor can be a powerful tool within the healing process when used appropriately. Working on yourself is never easy, but you should be able to enjoy the smile-worthy moments.

As humans, we learn to cope with unpleasant feelings and situations using our innate strengths. Despite doing our best those strategies are sometimes ineffective or unhelpful. The way we try to avoid pain may cause us distress and create problems that become hard-wired into our identity, and reduce our ability to function and connect fully with others. In a warm, supportive environment we can experience change as we embrace what we feel, become aware of our emotional patterns, and create internal harmony. My mission as a therapist is to help you cope think, and feel better using a wide range of empirically-based interventions.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
