As a therapist, I use Interpersonal Psychotherapy and attachment-based approaches in my work.
I approach therapy with a nonjudgmental perspective and a curiosity to understand the unique experiences leading clients to therapy. I believe a strong, genuine connection and collaboration between therapist and client can not only be an opportunity to improve coping skills and process through trauma and other difficulties, but also a catalyst to improving access to experiences of joy and contentment in life. I support clients with their therapy goals whether returning or starting for the first time. Therapy is often a brave journey of exploring the parts of ourselves that we might avoid… feeling scared, sad, angry, confused.

Take a breath... Just s l o w d o w n for a second- You made it this far, which takes courage. Good for you. That you took the step to come looking for a therapist means that some part of you heard it when your friend said they're worried about you, or when your partner said they think it's time the two of you found someone to talk to. It means there have just been too many days where you felt like an observer in your life or like this was the day you would crack under the pressure of holding yourself together. It means you're ready to build a life that feels more rich, full, and meaningful; a life not driven by conflict or fear.

We experience difficulties. We are all worthy of love and belonging. I provide a safe haven, a supportive non-judgmental place to grow and heal. I enjoy sharing the journey as motivated individuals and couples release patterns which no longer serve them, while discovering their strengths, resilience, goals, and, new ways of being and sharing. Sometimes, we need to acknowledge our limitations and reach for help to find our way. I am here for clients as they explore feelings and needs, and discover paths to more vibrant, connected lives ~ while making changes, or being with "what is" with new perspectives.

Friends and family are great resource. They care about you and are often so uneasy with seeing you upset that it's difficult for them to help you address the hard areas in life. Because they don't want to see you unhappy, they often tell you 'want' to hear when a good therapist will help you discover what you need to hear. Whether it be situational (relational issues, job-loss, unexpected death) or something more long-term like trauma, addiction, depression and anxiety. Investing time with a licensed therapist can help. You are stronger and more resilient than you realize and I look forward to working with you.

Therapy is often mistaken as the last resort for people with serious struggles, but everyone experiences bouts of confusion, anxiety, sadness, fear, and grief. Many of us have experienced neglect, abuse, or trauma, and talking to a therapist can help create clarity about what to do next. Therapy may be the answer to making the life improvements that you need. If you feel depressed, alone, or lost, a therapist can often help guide you to find the strength and perseverance to improve your state of mind. My passions are in social justice. I believe everyone needs to be heard and understood in order for communities to thrive.

I believe the story you tell yourself about yourself and your relationships is far more meaningful and descriptive than a diagnosis or other label that may have been placed on you. My goal is to assist you in gaining clarity about that story, who you are and where you are in life – your aspirations, talents, skills, obligations, and needs – so you can move confidently into the future, staying connected to those you love and the things that bring you joy. Don’t be a victim of fear, insecurity, or disappointment – harness your natural abilities, virtues, and powers to be the hero of your life.

Transformation doesn't ask that you stop being you. It demands that you find a way back to the authenticity and strength that's already inside of you. -Cheryl Strayed. I believe that everyone has the power within to heal themselves. As a therapist, there is nothing more sacred than being involved in someone's story and being able to help them find light in a world that can at times seem rather dim. My objective is to walk gently and compassionately with my clients on their paths toward creating a life full of meaning and growth.

My approach to therapy is making you the boss. Therapy is an investment of your time and energy and I want to honor that. My job is not to tell you what to do, it’s to give you the tools, education, and professional insights that motivate and inspire you to recognize what is best for you. As your therapist, I will be with you every step of the way as we navigate ups, downs, decisions, mistakes, and big wins. I've witnessed both personally and professionally the power in someone being heard and accepted for exactly where they're at. My goal at the end of every session is that you leave feeling validated and empowered.

I believe that all healing starts with developing a sense of connection and empathy with yourself and others. I support clients 18 to 50 years old who desire building the life they always imagined through understanding their drive for change. Each client I connect with seeks to deepen their understanding of self through feedback, cultivates the ability to ask when they want someone to listen and knows that their trauma is not something to be forgotten but a piece within them to be nurtured for rewiring.

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “How did I get here?” Sometimes life feels hard, overwhelming, and chaotic. Maybe you just don’t know where to start or you feel lost. Maybe you’re embarrassed that you can’t handle things on your own or like you don’t know who to ask for help. Perhaps you're going through a rough patch or you're looking to improve your relationships with friends, family, or partner. Or, maybe your child is struggling with anger, sadness, or anxiety.

As a growing expert in trauma, mindfulness, and body-mind bridging across the lifespan, I will strive to assist you with your concerns. My approach is light-hearted and evidence informed. I often integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectics, and psychodynamics into my education-based style. We will certainly work on attachment concerns and healthy "relating," too.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
